According to success author, Napoleon Hill, all human beings have six basic fears:
1. The fear of criticism
2. The fear of ill health
3. The fear of poverty
4. The fear of loss of love
5. The fear of old age
6. The fear of death
The best way for us to conquer any of these fears is to face each of them squarely, rather than spend the better part of our lives trying to avoid them. The answer to managing these fears lies then in our ability to focus, to maintaining the drive and desire to conquer them, and in our ability to persevere.
If we spend our time focusing on trying to find ways to avoid things that are inevitable, we can consume ourselves with destructive thoughts, and these destructive thoughts will undoubtedly lead to stress and doubt. …If we can change our focus, instead, to the things that protect us, we soon discover an ability to face things that we fear, and to push through the barriers that we create in our minds. Once this happens, we immediately grant ourselves the freedom to conquer those fears! When we learn to focus on today, and more specifically, on NOW, we equip ourselves with the tools to deal with what is actually occurring at this very point in time, rather than what we perceive may occur later on in our future. Many cancer survivors conquer their illness with this technique. Just think: If we can maintain focus on pushing past the pain and discomfort that we are feeling NOW, we can make one more step towards healing and overcoming that which ails us!
Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl, PhD, a World War II survivor of the Auschwitz concentration camp theorized that “everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms – to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances”. The impact of this discovery is that we as individuals now know that we have the ability to choose how we react to the circumstances that we find ourselves in, and ultimately to choose how long we can endure, and whether or not we can outlive that which consumes us. Let’s learn how to spend time enjoying today as the gift that it is intended to be.
Consider then, that there are 7 levels of energy. These 7 levels take us from being unmotivated to being highly enlightened. At our weakest, we become consumed with the six fears mentioned above, and can become entrapped. As we move to higher levels of understanding and enlightenment, we learn to conquer our fears to become the best that we can be.
So let us all strive to continuously open our awareness to the fact that the circumstances that we encounter today will not be the same tomorrow. Take a pact with me today to overcome any of the six fears that are consuming your mind, your time, and/or your sense of well-being. Push through the self-imposed barriers and open yourself up to experience true freedom and fulfillment. Take an attitude check-in too, from time-to-time, to disce
your current level of energy - how you are thinking, and if your thoughts are getting in the way of your successes. Remember: Nothing is impossible! Only you hold the key to your true happiness.
