Women get it from home:
Watch out for you pretty dress, stay away from the puddle, sit still, stop picking your nose, girls don’t do this, girls don’t do that…
And that’s BS.
Girls are nurtured with all these prejudices and preconceptions, of what they can and can’t do.
They are supposed to be just conscientious and pretty.
Only boys (and naughty girls) climb the trees.
So…
1. Get naughty and climb the tree
If you’re not happy about the way things are in your business or in your life, and the results you’re making, you need a fresh perspective.
So climb that tree and review your situation from another angle. And then climb higher.
Break your boundaries. Stop being conscientious and pretty and ask yourself what you want and how you can get it.
2. Lift heavy
I see this all the time: when women come to my kettlebell class, they pick the lightest weight possible. Those very same women who are carrying their two, four and six year-olds around, choose the 3 lb. weight, which is about a size of an apple.
Why? Because that’s not what women are supposed to do.
Lift heavy objects. Be competitive. Face the challenge.
They are supposed to be conscientious, resilient and reliable. And dodge all challenge whenever possible.
But once you put them on the Biggest Loser bootcamp, they suddenly find the tiger inside. And they battle like crazy.
There’s this pristine and elemental urge to do whatever it takes. They’ve got a coach telling them to perform, lift heavier, try harder and that’s what they do.
No doubt and no distrust on their abilities. The comfort zone just expands and expands and expands…
And there’s not a trace of conscientiousness in that. It’s all about Just Getting It Done.
And us, the spectators, we can all see the fantastic results.
3. Grow a pair
I know that sounds harsh but bear with me here.
It takes balls to stop, take a step back and re-evaluate the situation, do soul-searching and make the decisions on corrective moves.
It’s so much easier to just remain conscientious and pretty and stay on the comfort zone.
But if you’re already struggling and having doubts about your business, something must change.
Your conscientious performance doesn’t lead to results if the direction is wrong.
You’ve been led to believe that it’s enough if you are passionate, committed and resilient, then you can succeed in business.
But that’s why you strive.
If you just added being coachable in the mix, you would start thriving, too.
