Coping with the Holidays: 7 things to help you cope with loss during the holidaysr
Are you coping with a loss? Maybe you have had a loss of a loved one, pet, job, marriage, or any other type of loss? Well, I am with you on this one. I have had many losses and the holidays always seem to be so much more difficult to deal with after any type of loss. I am going to be sending out an article a day for the next week to help you prepare for this holiday season and yes, possibly even enjoy the holiday. And you are allowed to enjoy the holidays, if you allow yourself to. There should be no guilt to enjoying yourself. Give yourself a break. Read the following 7 ideas and each day we will expand on each.
Here are 7 things that you can do to help you get through this holiday season after your loss/losses.
1. Decide how you want to deal with the holidays. By this I mean do you want to talk about your loss? Do you not want to talk about your loss? This is something to think about. Also, laughter. Allowing yourself to laugh. Laughter is the best medicine.
2. Visualization. If you are not sure what this is, it is actually visualizing how you want yourself to be and how you want the holidays to be like in your mind. You actually picture each day/visit in your mind and “visualize” yourself how you want to be.
3. Breathing exercises. Yes, we all breathe. However, are you breathing correctly and are you breathing to relax yourself? More on this later.
4. Diet. This is also very important. Are you eating a healthy, well-balanced meal, or are you eating junk food and maybe drinking too much?
5. Exercise. I know you’re probably thinking, “I’m depressed, why would I want to exercise?” Well, exercise is very important to your physical and emotional health.
6. Declutter your life/your home. Getting out all the unnecessary clutter/mess in your home can save you much needed energy. Clutter gives off a lot of negative energy.
7. Live and cope through the holiday. You can get through this holiday season. Read on each day for insight and help to do this. It does work. I am living proof of it. You just need to give it an honest try and ALLOW YOURSELF TO RELAX this holiday!
