Curtain Linings and Its Functions

There are various types of curtains and these could be made from various materials which vary from printed to plain or neutral to coloured fabrics. Curtains have also various parts that make it work such as rods, hooks and the like. There are some additional parts such as draperies and linings which are not a pre-requisite but do help a lot. One of the most beneficial curtain add-ons are curtain linings because more than just decorative it also performs important functions. Curtain linings are the second curtain behind the main curtain. Most often linings are made from a lighter material than the main curtain. One of the major functions of curtain linings is light control. When you only have the main curtain, you can only do two things to control light: you either let it all in and open the curtains or you block it all out and close the curtains. What a curtain lining does, since it’s made from a light fabric is that it allows light to enter your room in a softer fashion. It lightly blocks of the light and makes the light softer and easier to handle. It gives this shade effect wherein you do not experience solid sunlight entering your room. In connection to controlling light, another important function of curtain linings is that it helps you control the amount of privacy that you want in your room. For example, if you want some privacy but then you also want some natural lighting in your room, you cannot do that with a simple curtain without lining because you have to close the heavy curtain. With a lining, you can have that privacy that you want because it still covers your windows but at the same time, you can have that natural lighting that you want because curtain linings still allow sunlight to penetrate. Lastly, curtain linings also help in minimizing the dust in your room. If you have a curtain that doesn’t have lining but you are fond of opening your curtains and windows, you allow a lot dust and dirt to enter your room. This makes it harder for you keep you room clean. When you have the lining closed with your main curtain and window open, the curtain lining acts like a shield which prevents dust from coming in your room. In addition, this keeps your main curtain clean as well which would lessen the number of times that you have to wash your main curtain. Of course, this would mean that you need to frequently wash your curtain linings but this is better because these are made from light materials which make it easier to wash.
