Dancing vs Boxing For Business Success

This might seem like a strange title for a business success article, particularly for women entrepreneurs. But it’s actually very appropriate.
Indeed a woman just this week described to me how she felt like she’s “being going 10 rounds with Mike Tyson!” And I know she’s not alone, because other women have described their business like a marathon. Some say it just feels like a hard slog, others that they’ve hit the pain barrier, and they’re trying to push through and keep going, but they’re wondering whether it’s worth it?
This highlights a number of things to me
1.Women really want to succeed in business and entrepreneurship.
2.Women still take on lots of extra responsibilities so it’s not just business that’s on their minds!
3.The business environment, in terms of what and how we’re taught in order to be successful, is predominantly masculine.
And this causes the majority of women to
1.Settle for less than they want or deserve or
2.Think real business success only happens to other people or
3.Think there must be something wrong with them because they can’t make it work or
4.Think this is the only way.
But what if doing business was more like a dance?
What if you already are a fabulous dancer, you’ve just been on someone else’s stage?
What if finding and setting your own stage is what would allow you to succeed?
What if stopping the struggle, the fighting and the pushing through was the only way you could succeed?
Would you be prepared to learn a different way?
Because I’m here to tell you that there is a different way and it’s dancing! It’s become my mission in life to let as many of you as possible know that business doesn’t have to be this way, that it can be simple, that you can love your business and your life by becoming the Star on your own Stage and in your own Dance Show.
All it takes is willingness. A willingness
- To be open to a different approach and message.
- To let go of your often strongly held beliefs about how business is.
- To stop being so busy and to start being more effective.
- To be scared and excited!
Because I’ve been where you are now. I’ve been outwardly successful and inwardly falling apart. I’ve been financially successful in my business and financially unsuccessful! I’ve been at the masculine end of the scale - competing, struggling, and trying to push through the pain. And I’m now at the feminine end having found another way for myself.
A way that’s simple, joyful and fulfilling. A way that allows me to do more for others and receive a just financial reward. A way that allows me to dance. To be the Star of my own Show, taking complete responsibility for how I want my Stage and my Dance to be.
And that’s what I want for you too if you’re willing. Are you?

***Rising Like a Phoenix
Sometimes, life smiles on you. It’s the kind of thing that nourishes hope. And then, life turns. And, well – you deal with it. Upon my return from Germany and settling the affairs of my late father, I retained a lawyer—with more money I did not have—to fight the eviction notice I’d received while I was abroad. I found a bankruptcy attorney and prepared myself to let it all go. Even though I had just negotiated a huge deal with Getty Images, the largest such distributor in the world, I realized that I might not make it to see my business turn a profit.

***Do What You Love AND Make Money
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could do what we love and money would flow automatically? It actually can do this and it will, but not entirely by itself. An extra step is needed. Money comes around when it is actively pursued and it doesn’t when you neglect to do so. Let’s take a closer look at how making money fits into the day to day planning by the example of the average entrepreneurial business owner. Most of you have figured it out, but there is still a difference between getting something done and generating income. Let’s look at why that is.
