Day of the Dead 2012

This time of year in the season of Autumn the Day of the Dead 2012 is celebrated especially in Mexico and by Latin Americans in the US. It is also know as All Souls Day on November 1 and the Catholic holiday All Saints Day on November 2.

The Day of the Dead is a time for family and friends to come together in prayer and remembrance of loved ones who have died. We can build altars or shrines in our homes to celebrate and honor our dead.

During the Day of the Dead we have the opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge the cycle of death as an essential part of the cycle of life where one does not exist without the other.

Conscious Intention

The Celts believed that with conscious intention this was the most powerful time to look into the future and access other worlds more easily. It was a time to go within and seek guidance from our ancestors for the upcoming year.

The Ancient Celts believed that this time of High Magic was best used with conscious intention since the veils between the world of the living and the world of the dead are thinnest.

This time of High Magic was for celebrating death and rebirth, endings and beginnings and what was yet to come. The pattern for the coming year was set through conscious intention through ceremonial celebration.

Honoring Our Dead Loved Ones

The Day of the Dead for me is about honoring our dead loved ones on the other side. Setting up pictures of my loved ones on an altar with lit candles is a simple way for me to acknowledge them all.

During this celebration of the Day of the Dead I am honoring my dead loved ones by remembering the gifts that each one has given to me in my life. For example my mom's gift to me was knowing the importance of sharing loving kindness with others and my friend Deb's gift was the importance of expressing our creativity.

Making a conscious effort to incorporate the many gifts that each loved one gave me is the most powerful way of honoring my dead loved ones.
