We hear so much today about December 21, 2012, the end of the Mayan calendar. What does it mean? Is it armageddon? Is it the 0 degrees beginning of the Aquarian Age? Is it the end of the world?
One thing needs to be pointed out before we make too much to do about the date of December 21, 2012. We don’t even know when the 0 year was 2000+ years ago. Was it 7 BC, 5 BC, or really 1 AD? If current calendar time didn’t begin at 0 year, how did we get the date of 12/21/12? Did the Mayans know our current calendar? Did they know that the Julian calendar replaced the Roman calendar in 45 BC and that
the Gregorian calendar replaced the Julian calendar by changing the amount of days in the 16th century?
With all this goings back and forth with calendars, how does one match up our days with the Mayan days and where did they get the date, December 21, 2012?
OK, so perhaps they used the Astrological calendar beginning at the Spring Equinox. What year was that? How do we translate the different times to come out to December 21, 2012 when we don’t even know what year the Mayan calendar begins?
Articles and books about the Mayan calendar sound so complicated. Here is an online article that seemsto make some sense. It states,
Mayan scholars have been attempting to correlate the Long Count with our Western Gregorian calendar, since the beginning of this century. There has been massive variation in the suggested correlations, but as early as 1905, Goodman suggested a correlation only 3 days from the most popular one today. Known as the GMT correlation, or "correlation # 584283", this was finalized in
1950, and puts the start of the Great Cycle ( day 0.0.0.0.0) on 11th August 3114 BC, and the end-date (known as 13.0.0.0.0.) as 21st December 2012.

Where was the starting point from which the Mayan scholars correlated; did they simply go back from 12/21/12 to August 11, 3114 BC? If so, wouldn’t that be a circular argument; the ancient ouroboros?

A vast amount of peoples tend to grab and hold onto the horror story of the time. Remember when there was a big to do about computers not being able to switch over from 1999 to 2000? It was the big Y2K scare!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2000_problem
Since then there have been some devilish glitches conce
ing computers especially with hackers and airline schedules, but nothing created the fear that 1999 did with the general public. What is it that is so compelling about a big scare that gets people so excited? Perhaps we need an adrenalin rush or something to keep us from dying of boredom?
What is it about armageddon or the rapture that keeps millions of Christians committed and proselytizing? How can the promise of 72 virgins entice an educated, grown man to kill himself and the many strangers among him? Worse, an uneducated woman?
Will this 12/21/12 date simply be another glitch or does it have any significance? A longer article:

or you can read the many books listed on www.amazon.com under the
subject “Mayan”. What’s even better, there is a website totally devoted to December 21, 2012:
http://www.december212012.com/index.shtmlrnIt even has a timer ticking off the days, hours, minutes, and seconds. How fun! Another site that shows how a lecture made a believe
even with a different date:

What can one do to stave off the fear of those coming days? As author Gerald G. Jampolsky titled his book, Love is Letting Go of Fear. How in the world does one let go of fear? Mr. Jampolsky has lots of ideas in his book available at
www.amazon.com
One thing; one cannot usually change a repeating negative emotion ove
ight. We might think of emotions as “ruts” in our brain waves that have taken hold by repeating and repeating the same old thought patterns. We have to make new ruts. We have to fool ourselves at first (like little children) and get rid of the scare/terror ruts we’ve dug in our brain. One way that works is to;
1. imagine yourself in a scary situation until you really feel the fear.
2. Then visualize the rut of fear. See it as a rut of sand by the ocean or a dirt rut that a car has made.
3. Hold that vision for a moment as you feel the fear.
4. Then visually FILL the rut, taking slow, deep, cleansing breaths of air until the fear is gone.
5. Now, while visualizing the filled rut, feel the love for yourself and the beautiful universe that you are a part.
Anytime you feel the beginnings of fear; smile, close your eyes, visualize the filled rut, and feel the love wash over you like a warm bath of light. Know that you are blessed, protected, and loved.
To change any habit or rut, one must practice, practice, practice! To let go of fear, practice filling that rut with love.
