Dihydrotestoterone, or DHT, is a hormone created when testosterone combines with an enzyme known as 5-alpha reductase. The American Hair Loss Association estimates that DHT is responsible for over 95% of all male hair loss. However, women can also experience DHT-related hair loss.

When DHT is produced in large amounts, it attaches itself to the hair follicles and blocks the flow of nutrients. As the follicles are deprived of nutrients, they begin to shrink and produce hair at a decreased rate. DHT also shortens the follicles’ growth phase and lengthens their resting phase. If they are deprived of nutrients for an extended period, some of the follicles will become dormant or die. To stop hair loss, it is important to begin using a DHT blocker before the follicles are damaged beyond repair.
Is a Medicated DHT Blocker the Only Option?

Several medicated DHT blockers have become so popular that they are now considered household names. Rogaine would be the best example, but Propecia has also become fairly popular amongst hair loss sufferers. Unfortunately, despite their popularity, hair loss drugs are known to cause several undesirable side effects. These medications sometimes cause irritation, itching, redness, chest pain, increased heart rate, weight gain, dizziness, fainting, swelling and several sexual side effects. Rogaine users also sometimes experience hair growth on unwanted areas of the body.

Fortunately, consumers do not have to treat their hair loss with harsh chemicals. There are many natural herbs that are also effective at blocking damaging DHT. Not only are these herbs effective, but also they are also safe and less likely to produce undesirable side effects.
The Benefits of Using a Natural DHT Blocker

Natural herbs, like saw palmetto, nettles, gotu kola, muira puma and eleuthero root, are very similar to DHT-blocking medications. Some of these substances inhibit the production of 5-alpha reductase, ultimately preventing the production of DHT. Some herbs also bind to the follicles, which makes it impossible for DHT to attach itself and cause lasting damage.

In addition to being safer than chemicals, natural substances are often just as effective. Clinical research has shown that most people who use a natural DHT blocker notice positive results withi
90 days. However, like medicated products, natural substances will only work on DHT-related hair loss. If a person is suffering from scalp trauma, certain scalp conditions or medication-related hair loss, natural supplements might not be effective.

There are several benefits of using an all-natural hair loss supplement. High-end hair loss supplements have been clinically proven to prevent hair loss in 88% of users without producing side effects. When using this product regularly, most users also notice new growth in areas that were previously thinning. Because these supplements do not contain harsh chemicals, it can be used over time without causing long-term side effects. People who want to regain loss hair without compromising their health can now do so.
