If you have ever suffered from Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome (IBS), then you may have had the problem of unexpected diarrhea and IBS. Diarrhea comes on when you least expect it, such as when you are out shopping, eating or socializing with friends and family. At these times, the diarrhea is "urgent" and can be a very embarrassing and stressful situation. Frequent rushes to bathroom, nausea or vomiting-type sensations, bloating etc. are also commonplace. This feeling of an uncontrollable bowel movement haunts you wherever you go.
A doctor may suggest that you take Imodium or similar product, which provides only temporary relief. Unfortunately, those types of medications will not take care of the real cause of your condition. You will need to find out what the real cause of your condition is before you have any hopes making it go away. So, what is the real cause of this diarrhea and IBS?
Diarrhea comes about when the inside lining of the bowel is irritated with acids from the digestive system. This is why the "urgency" comes about in people right after they eat. Your body does not like how the acid causes damage to the wall of the colon, and because of this, water floods into your bowel to move the acid out as quickly as possible.
It's quite surprising that medical world still believes that bacteria or germ infection is a primary cause of diarrhea and IBS. Medical experts prefer to prescribe strong and harmful antibiotics for handling this medical situation. But this is not the answer for inhibiting the reappearance of this condition. Although the bacterial or germ infection theory dominates the thought process of the medical experts, this theory is totally incorrect.
Antibiotics that are prescribed for any kind of bacterial infection can kill good bacteria as well -- the good bacteria that guard your GI tract. The mucosal lining guards delicate tissue in your intestine. Stomach acid digests foods and then inflames tissue, fat, skin, and muscle from your intestine wall and colon when the lining is damaged. This, in turn, brings on diarrhea. Your body trying to help protect you by adding water to your colon to dilute the acid in the stomach, and quickly moves the acid out to it from keep from damaging the wall of the colon. This is why after eating that the sense of "urgency" occurs in many people. This can be a very uncomfortable situation for people when they are out in public and are not close to a bathroom.
The answer to diarrhea and IBS doesn't lie in taking such as Imodium, nor is stopping eating the solution. The solution to diarrhea and IBS lies in rebuilding the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract with supplements provided under the care of a naturopath who specializes in GI diseases.
