Brilliance is a word that is used in many different contexts. When we use it to describe people, it's often as a synonym for super-smart or genius. Sometimes when working with my clients on discovering their brilliance, they’ll tell me this: "I'm not that smart." (But they usually are!)

When I think of brilliance, I think in terms of diamonds - and then the imagery is more along the lines of "exceptional brightness and clarity" or "showy splendor."
So when I talk about people discovering their brilliance, marketing their brilliance, or heck, showing off their brilliance, what I'm thinking about is the unique aspect that each business owner brings into their business. It's the special gift that is what usually propels people into business in the first place, something a business owner wants to offer the world.
How do you know if you haven’t found your brilliance? One common theme I’ve heard is that you feel like you’re “spinning,” trying to figure out what your message is, and how to market and attract your best clients. Another is that you’re unsure of your positioning, just not sure how to stand out in the marketplace.

Your business may be doing okay but none of your marketing is quite taking off. Or worse, you may be treading water, barely keeping your head above the surface. No matter what, though, your business is not where you want it to be; your spirit wants “more!”

What I too often see is people not quite connecting their unique talents with their business message. Most folks fall into one or more of these categories:
• One group needs some extra help to discover what makes them unique, what special gifts they bring to the table.
• The second group already has a good idea - or knows for sure - what makes them special, but they're not always able to find the right words to describe it.
• Another group is in the process of reframing and revamping their business and needs help “transferring” their brilliance to the new endeavor.

As a copywriter, it's my job to find that unique nugget, that piece that has exceptional brightness and clarity, and then find the right words that describe that brilliance in a compelling, action-inducing way! Especially for those whose business is evolving, identifying your brilliance right up front – clear and concise – is the best thing you can do to get a new business going on the right track.
Some of the ways I help my clients define and market their brilliance are defining their USP (Unique Selling Proposition), find and claim a niche, become visible to the people who are looking for you, and engage your prospects in a dialogue that leads to a relationship and closing the sale!
