Opportunity for content creators has never been as great as it is today. The potential, moving forward, is unlimited. Profit margins are incredibly high, market reach beyond anything we’ve ever seen and new markets emerging every day.
That’s the great news. The bad news is this; with so many choices of what to do, many people are far less productive than in the past.
Although days are full of activity, with much of it online, the quality of the activity for many people is sorely lacking.
With dreams of making it big in the digital-products space, countless would-be product creators are left frustrated, discouraged and with less money than before they set out on their product-creation quest.
On the flip side, there are men and women around the globe making an incredible living by bringing digital products to market. Not only do they make great money, they live a lifestyle others only dream of, contribute in countless ways to non profits, to their community and families and live with a great deal of passion.
So what makes one person successful while others struggle every step of the way? Choice. It’s often that simple.
Throughout our day we have many choices to make. Most have a direct impact on how productive we are.
“Just one more minute,” is often the dialogue people have with themselves as they check their emails for the umpteenth time in a day or hop on their favorite social media site to read the latest joke, update or watch a short video.
Several hours later, they realize they blew yet another would-be productive day. Then they wonder why they’re not making the kind of money they want to.
In any given day, there are ample things vying for your attention. Most of which are not producing notable results. One of the greatest time-wasters is social media, with Facebook being at the top of the list for many people.
It would be shocking to some people just how much time they waste each and every day. It’s often hours that slip by before they know it.
This is a result of Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD). IAD is often referred to as Problematic Internet Use or Compulsive Internet Use. These terms refer to excessive computer use that interferes with daily life and productivity.
IAD does not apply to someone whose job requires they be on their computer. Not at all. IAD is specific to people who get extremely distracted, caught up and find themselves chasing one bright shiny object after another.
So what can be done about this? First, determine if you are becoming less and less productive, yet busier and busier online. Second, track your time for one week to determine if changes in your daily activity need to be made.
If your goals include making money online, you’ll be doing yourself a huge disservice not to be 100% aware of anything you’re doing that may be sabotaging your success.
Want to create a product? Try this... Try this… for the next week, implement what I call The Hour of Power.
The Hour of Power, when used right, can be an incredibly productive time for you. During this hour, you do only those things that monetize your business. In the case of developing a product, any activity during the hour would be specific to creating the product.
Start with something simple, like a short report or eBook. Your activity might include:r
• Outlining the product
• Research specific to the content
• Writing content
• Formatting content
• Using a template to design the coverr
The process can be somewhat tricky. You have to be completely honest about what you’re doing. For example, when you are researching is it 100% research or do you sneak over to check emails or your Facebook wall?
Here’s the deal; creating profitable products and building a successful business takes discipline. Anyone who tells you otherwise is likely not running a successful business.
There are things you have to be willing to let go of and other activities you absolutely must incorporate into what you do on a daily basis.
Ready to implement your own Hour of Power?
1. Set a goal of what you want to achieve within one week. How about a short report or eBook?
2. Commit to an Hour of Power for the next week. The reason it is only a week is to make it manageable. If you commit to much more than that, you might convince yourself it is more than you can do.
3. Spend the first hour of your day 100% focused on revenue-generating activities. This means you do nothing for that hour but what’s in front of you to make money. No email, no social media, no watching cute videos, nothing.
4. You may need to set your alarm to get up an hour earlier than usual in order to complete your Hour of Power activities.
5. Keep track of what you accomplished over the week during your Hour of Power.
6. Evaluate your results at week’s end. If you put a full hour in each day for a week you should be able to complete one short report or eBook of 10 - 15 pages. If not, maybe it’s time to enlist the help of an assistant.
