Earrings are the coolest accessories. But not many of us get a chance to sport them. If you have sensitive skin, then you will experience discomfort. This is because not every metal is safe to be worn as jewelry. And without proper consultation before wearing the metal, you may end up with skin rashes that can permanently harm your skin.

That is why you must know what you are investing in.

So, here in this blog, we will discuss a few metals. These metals are a great option to make earrings for people with sensitive skin.

1- High-Karat Gold:

Gold is a great option if you are looking for a hypoallergenic material. But keep in mind that you do not go for gold that is lower than 14k. This is because lower karat gold has different metals that may cause sensitive ears. Also, the purest form, that is, 24K Gold earrings may be very soft for daily wear.

2- Sterling Silver:

Pure sterling silver earrings will not cause any allergic reaction. But similar to gold, even the pure form of silver tends to be soft. This means that the jewel manufacturers create a metal alloy that has 92.5% silver and 7.5% of other metals. That is why you must ask the jeweler if the finished products contain any metals that may harm your skin.

3- Titanium:

Titanium is an excellent option if you are going for something durable yet lightweight. It is estimated that almost 4% of the total population is allergic to titanium. If you are allergic to nickel, then titanium will be the best option for you. If possible, request the jewel manufacturer to make the earrings from commercially pure, implant grade, or medical-grade titanium.

4- Niobium:

Niobium has the same amount of sturdiness and durability as titanium. Popularly used for medical implants, Niobium is a chemical element. But it has the capability of being manipulated into jewelry too. However, Niobium isn’t a mainstream jewelry material. So, it can be hard to find products made of it.

5- Plastic:

Plastic is an inexpensive option for people who have a hyper allergy to any metals. You can find earrings made of plastic, acrylic, or silicone. The best part of it is that it has a reasonable resemblance to that of gemstone earrings. But you must note that these earrings will look cheap.

6- Surgical Stainless Steel:

If you do not want gold or titanium, the surgical stainless steel (SSS) can help you. It also comes at an affordable price. So, you can see through the catalog and choose SSS studded gemstone earrings.

Bottom Line

The chances are high that even your fancy earrings may have a mark of ‘hypoallergenic.’ But that does not necessarily mean they are allergy-free. Some manufacturers tend to create jewelry with nickel and then coat it with hypoallergenic material.

So, make sure to invest in high-quality earrings. Use our article as a guide during the purchase. This way, you can stay assured that your earrings will not end up aggravating your earlobes.
