Does Laser Treatment Really Work?

Aesthetic laser treatment is estimated to worth about US$400 million in the U.S. annually, according to a 2011 industry report. This is partially due to the ever-increasing costs of the CO2 and ND:YAG laser machines, which are typically in the range of US$50,000 each.
Because of the versatility and the safe treatment of several indications, the market for medical laser treatments is expected to exceed US$3 billion before the end of 2017. Even though lasers were first used by aesthetic doctors many years ago, they still remain as an important service for doctors to treat conditions such as scars, acne, wrinkles, pigmentation, tattoo removal, facial veins, and hair removal because of the efficacy of the treatments albeit their downtime that comes along with it.
So what are some important conditions that laser treatments are used for? We list down some for you:
SKIN RENEWAL WITH SKIN RESURFACING TREATMENTS
Skin resurfacing is an effective way to reduce wrinkles, fine lines and other skin irregularities on the face. Using advanced medical laser technology, a precise laser is used to remove the top layer of dead skin to reveal the underlying new skin which is smoother, softer, and younger-looking. At the same time, the treatment also stimulates the regeneration of new skin.
Two common lasers that are used for skin resurfacing are carbon dioxide (CO2) and erbium laser. CO2 laser technology (http://radium-aesthetics.com/treatment/co2-laser-skin-resurfacing/) is usually to treat deeper wrinkles and scars, while erbium laser is to treat fine to moderately deep wrinkles.
HAIR REGROWTH TREATMENT USING LASEMD LASER
LASEMD is an advanced medical laser concept to treat hair loss designed by Koreans. LASEMD uses Cosmeceutical Delivery System (CDS) to administer cosmeceutical compounds deep into the scalp to increase the absorption rate of the active ingredients.
When applied on the scalp without any laser treatment, the absorption rate of typical scalp serum is usually very low which leads little or no efficacious outcome. The CDS laser concept was introduced to enhance the penetration rate of the scalp serum.
When administered, the LASEMD (http://radium-aesthetics.com/treatment/lasemd-hair-loss-treatment-laser/) laser creates micro-channels in the scalp to allow scalp serum that contains active ingredients to penetrate your scalp more deeply for maximal effects. At the same time, the Thulium laser energy stimulates the hair follicles to produce stronger, thicker hair.
LIFTING AND TONING OF SAGGING SKIN WITH LASER TONING
Not known to many people, lasers can also be used to reduce puffiness and lift the skin. A special, gentle non-ablative laser is used to heat up the specific area so that the skin cells will be activated to produce more collagen.
REMOVAL OF PIGMENTATION
Regular sun exposure can lead to increased deposits of pigmentation on the skin. This is commonly caused by abnormal production of melanin. This leads to some parts of the skin turning darker than others.
Some specialized laser treatments such as Ruvy Touch Pigment Laser (http://radium-aesthetics.com/treatment/ruvy-touch-pigment-laser/) uses red pulses of laser energy to target epidermal pigments with great precision without damaging other tissue surrounding it. At a specific wavelength, the laser has a greater selectivity of melanin to break down the pigment cells.
VAGINAL TIGHTENING
A laser-assisted procedure is designed to improve the vaginal laxity that some women face especially due to aging or childbirth. Using CO2 laser with the precise wavelength, fractionated laser energy is delivered through vaporization and thermal energy to promote tissue remodeling. At the same time, the thermal heat induces collagen production to tighten and firm the vaginal walls.
As this is a non-surgical, outpatient treatment, it can be done in under an hour and the patient can immediately return to work.

Should You Get a Routine Mammogram If There's No Cancer in Your Family?
“Just a waste of my time,” I remember thinking while waiting my turn for a mammogram in Dr. Ira Berger’s office. I had brought my briefcase and had work spread on my lap, but spending time driving the 97-mile round trip from my home office to the radiologist’s was an unproductive part of my day. It was 1992 and I had been getting annual mammograms for more than 10 years – ever since I turned 45. But I felt I had better things to do with my time, especially since no one in my family had ever had breast cancer, or cancer of any kind.
