Don’t Forget to Pack Your Sense of Humor

Heading out for a Fourth of July Weekend trip, or a summer vacation? Don’t forget to pack your sense of humor! As wonderful as traveling can be for an individual, couple, or the whole family/group, obstacles will inevitably arise. You might get lost, you might be delayed, someone might get sick, or other incidents can develop and ruin the entire trip if someone becomes angry or sullen about the challenges. As Henry Ward Beecher wrote, “A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road.” To keep from being jolted by every challenge that might arise on your upcoming trip, think about the music that you will be listening to – upbeat and fun, or full of angst and anger? Think about the books or audio books that you plan to take along – comedies with happy endings, or grim nonfiction tales about politics or depressing topics? Think about the outfits that you’ll be packing – fun, free-flowing clothing, or tight-fitting outfits that will just barely fit if you only eat one lettuce leaf for dinner and never fully inhale? Think about the itinerary that you have planned – is there room for spontaneity and silly fun, or is every minute packed with something that “should” be done in order to stay on schedule?
