There are individuals who do not have any idea how they can handle panic attacks; even for those people with long term panic attacks. Maybe because you will never really get the hang of it; there will always be that "feelings of discomfort" every time panic attacks happen. It won't be that simple after all, yet a person should learn how to handle a panic attack.

When managing an attack, most people feel they are managing the most challenging task in the globe. On the contrary, it is pretty easy if you only know what to do. I will share some tips on how to handle panic attacks because I do understand how it feels to know you can't do something.

The first few seconds of your attack is the best time for you to determine if you want to handle your attacks or not. Whatever you do here dictates what will happen to you in the succeeding ten minutes. You must be thinking, "Well, what exactly should I do to make this ordeal a little less threatening"?

First, look for a quiet place to peacefully handle your attack; you do not want to get attention because it will only make you more anxious. I recommend that you go somewhere with fresh air, it usually helps a lot. In case worse things occur, bring along with you a friend or a love one to watch you over.

Should the first technique be not effective, be ready for the next phase. A panic episode reaches its climax after 10 to 11 minutes. During this phase, you will feel the true symptoms of panic attacks which are excessive perspiration, rapid heartbeat and shaking of the hands and feet. Expect the worst but do not give up.

Yes, this may be a little hard to do yet you need to sustain the correct way of breathing even during the outburst of the symptoms. This is very significant because you may pass out due to the deficit of oxygen being delivered in the brain. To perform an effective deep breathing exercise, inhale deeply with your nose and then exhale slowly through the mouth with your pursed lips.

After the 10th and 11th minute, the manifestations will slowly die down. Most importantly, it is best to stay calm to prevent getting too anxious as it may trigger another panic attack. During this situations, presence of mind is very important so do not lose it.
