Most people enjoy going out to a fast food joint with family or friends. Statistics shows that 65% per-cent of Americans eat out at least once a week. This number has increased dramatically over the past twenty years as fast food became more prevalent throughout large cities. However, if your goal is to look good and still stay in shape, then you should still enjoy your time but do not lose self-control when dining out.
Below are some tips to consider when going out to a restaurant or fast food spot.
Firstly, you should opt for healthier choices. Select something from the menu that is healthy, or at least healthier than the other options offered. To illustrate, if you are having your meal at McDonald's, then you should opt for green tea and corn instead of coke and fries.
Next, you should also notice the food portion. Generally speaking, the portion size at a fast food restaurant is usually too much. This is especially true at sit down restaurants where the plates are often over-sized.
You can get a 'to go' box. One of the best methods you should start especially if you eat at restaurants is to ask the waiter for a 'to go' box right at the start of the meal. This may sound strange, but the reason is that when your meal arrives, you immediately put half the food serving into the container and put it away to take home. This will reduce the calories you eat by half.
Additionally, you should opt for salad and healthy soups wherever possible. If you want something healthy or a low calorie option, salads and soups are definitely good options. If you do opt for a salad, ask for light dressing, and soups such as vegetable or chicken noodle are great, whereas soups with the words 'cream of', or 'cheese' in the name are not as healthy.
Last of all, you should drink a lot of water. Drink plenty of water throughout your meal. Plain drinking water has zero calories, helps to improve digestion, and makes you feel fuller. Avoid drinking sugary drinks such as soda or beer at all costs, since these packs on unnecessary calories and results in extra fats being accumulated around your belly. It also increases the amount you have to pay for the bill. Such drinks with empty calories will only provide you with temporary 'joy', after which, you will find that you have become fatter, with no real benefit.
