A flabby stomach is also known as a mother's apron. This belly fat is usually a result of the stored fat from a pregnancy. For some, it is a genetic issue, where the body decides where to store the fat cells. This kind of flab may be stubborn and therefore difficult to get rid of. The belly flab stretches the skin and causes stretch marks too. These marks fade away for most people after they lose weight and get back into shape.

People trying to get rid of flabby stomach tend to doing exercises which concentrate only on the abdomen like sit-ups and crunches. These spot reducing exercises may not help you to reduce that flabby stomach. Spot reducing and concentrating on reducing fat from one area may help in strengthening the abdominal muscles, but still leave it covered with layers of fat. One has to burn the fat which causes the flabby tummy. For burning it, one may do cardiovascular exercises.

Exercises like walking, running and jogging are very useful in toning the body. Walking uses all the abdominal muscles, so make sure you walk for at least 20 to 30 minutes regularly. It is beneficial to swing ones arms while walking. Swimming and cycling are beneficial too. They help in losing the fat and therefore make the skin taut and less flabby. Other exercises one can do for burning the fat stored in the body are aerobics, weight training and yoga. In yoga there are many poses and asanas which help tone up the body. Do one of the forms of exercise you enjoy and like doing.

Watching what you eat can help immensely in getting rid of the flabby stomach. Cut out sugars, refined food and high calorie food from your diet. Keep a log of what you consume in a day. This will help you calculate the number of calories your body consumes and accordingly you can cut down the extra calories every day. Cutting down the portion sizes helps in shedding the flab from the mid section area. Avoid alcohol and colas which increase the flab in the abdomen. Substitute alcoholic and fizz drinks with water which is essential for our body. Water flushes out the toxins from our body and keeps it hydrated. It is better to eat smaller frequent meals rather than eating heavy meals with long gaps in between. Consuming smaller frequent meals will keep the body's metabolism at the required rate and the body will burn more calories.

Include vegetables and fruits in your diet which are rich in nutrients. Avoid junk food and oily food. Making small and simple adjustments in one's lifestyle can help in getting rid of flabby stomach.

Some people go in for other options like weight loss pills and surgeries such as liposuction and abdominoplasty. In liposuction, an incision is made and the fat from the flabby belly is suctioned out. Abdominoplasty is also known as a tummy tuck, in which excess skin is removed along with excess fat. Although these options are available, it is safer to get rid of the flabby stomach in a natural way by exercising and following the right kind of diet.
