If you are planning to visit Paris then it will be very interesting to know more about Eiffel tower, the symbol Paris. Eiffel tower was named after it`s engineer Gustave Eiffel. Gustave Eiffel was specialized in metallic buildings.

The tower was built in two years by 132 workers and 50 engineers. The tower was built for Paris world exhibition in the year 1889. Two million people visited this master piece in the world fair of 1889. The height of the Eiffel tower is 320 meters and it weighs 7000 tons but the pressure it applies on the ground is only equivalent to that of a chair with a man seated on it.

The tower was planned to be demolished in the year 1909 because it was not having any practical use and was built just to demonstrate the capabilities of modern engineering. The tower was saved because of it`s use in telecommunication services. During it`s life time Eiffel tower has witnessed few strange scenes including being scaled by a mountaineer in 1954 and parachuted off in 1984 by two english men.

Once the Tower was completed it was widely criticized. Eiffel tower was the world's tallest building until the construction of the Chrysler building of New York city in the year 1929. Eiffel tower is divided in three levels. Open elevators bring visitors to these different levels. From each level you can see an interesting and beautiful view of Paris. The birth of the Eiffel tower was difficult but now it is widely accepted as the symbol of Paris.
