Enlightenment? At These Gas Prices?

As I was enjoying a delightful lunch and excellent conversation with a lady friend of mine this afte
oon she so eloquently joked that we have great conversation because “we’re flying at the same altitude” so to speak.
It is wonderful when we click so well with someone that we can express ourselves openly and easily.
At one point we were discussing that in times past guru’s and other individuals would often leave society and “go to the mountain” to seek enlightenment or to find or discover their connection with God. She was commenting that as we awaken spiritually not everyone will “go to the mountain”.
I jokingly added, “Not at these gas prices.”
It was funny and we both had a good laugh but there’s also a deeper message hidden in our light-hearted dialogue.
So often we think we need to get away to find ourselves or experience a profound awakening. In reality this story just becomes a powerful excuse to forever stay hidden from our own presence. This excuse and I have become good friends over the years. For my entire adult life I have been a mother and I have relentlessly used my children and my inability to get away to find myself “because I have children that depend on me and what would they do without me” story to put off finding myself over the years.
Probably like many others like myself I was afraid of what I might find!
But that’s another article.
The other truth is that our Divine Awakening occurs when we can find ourselves, that immense peace and satisfaction that resides within us at all times amidst the chaos, the noise, the chatter and yes even amidst the forever rising gas prices.
Sometimes it just doesn’t work out that we can “go to the mountain” to find the inner peace or to find the truth of who we are, but that’s ok because if we did we would only have to find it again once we return. It’s much more powerful to find it in the noise of the activity of our daily lives because when we do we learn that we are not victim to the outside circumstances. This is what I call Mastery. Mastery is attained when we know that our Presence is available to us anywhere, any time and under all circumstances.
Bottom line is our “mountain” is within.
This being said I’m headed for the mountain(s) of Colorado in search of nothing more than some fun quality family time.
