In manufacturing, product design refers to a production system where workplaces and equipment are aligned along the production line. The work units generally move along the line through the conveyor. A small amount of work is done at each of the workstations on the line. Product design can be used when the total amount of work to be done is divided into smaller tasks and allocated to individual workspaces.
Each workstation does a small amount of work, and the centres employ specific techniques and tools according to the assigned individual job, leading to higher production rates.
Process design is a design for a floor plan that aims to improve efficiency by assembling tools according to function. Production line design is done to eliminate waste in material flow, inventory management, and management. Workstations and machinery are not assembled according to the specific production sequence in the process design. Each section has a similar set of operations or similar machinery.
Manufacturing companies think and do a lot of research about the design of factory facilities. Choosing the manufacturing process and design strategies are essential to increase productivity and reduce costs. Companies adopt different strategies to reduce waste and increase production in less time. Depending on the different scenarios, companies implement process design or product design.
Product and Process Design The following is an idea of everything one needs to know about the manufacturing process.
Product design: The different workspaces are grouped according to the products they are working on. In product design, workstations can quickly transfer small batches of semi-finished products on the production line to the next station. For small manufacturing companies, product designs are better suited to smaller ones than their larger corporate competitors. It is wise to at least consider implementing process design with increasing production in the manufacturing business. For garment manufacturers, product design, for example, sewing clothes, sewing on buttons, checking seams, wrapping ready-made garments, and sample and clean boxing centres. The whole process is very close to the object of personal clothing. This allows individual garments to be shipped quickly from one station to another.
