Have you made several attempts at losing weight, but just cannot seem to keep the weight off? Regaining weight is actually very common among dieters. You may blame the inability to lose weight on lack of will power, inability to make it to the gym, temptations of food or a million other things. What if I sat here today and said that maybe the reason you cannot keep the weight off is because you are afraid.

Yes, fear! Fear is not always blatantly there in front of us. Sometimes it is the underlying reason why you may sabotage your own weight loss. Many times the fear is far stronger than the desire to lose weight. So you may be wondering what type of fear prevents you from losing weight and keeping it off.

One of the main fears that may be preventing you from losing weight is new experiences. The myths that you have developed overtime may tell you that being thin is great and that you will experience more success in life. You may have a fear of this new found success. You may worry about what type of attention being thin will bring. You may feel incapable of handling this change. You may wonder what types of options will come along with the weight loss. The myth that being thin leads to success should be diminished. It is you and not your looks that lead to success.

Many people use their weight as an excuse to not participate in activities. Let's say that you have always avoided relationships because of your weight. You used your weight as a shield to prevent yourself from potentially being hurt by others. When you use weight as an excuse not to do things in your life, you miss out on so many great experiences. When you begin to lose weight there is a fear that you will not have your weight as an excuse to rely on anymore.

You may also have a fear of giving up the things that you love while trying to lose weight. Many diets are based on deprivation. You may fear that the familiarity of your afte
oon snack break will now be gone. The comfort that comes from an emotional eating binge is not there for you to rely on. These are all scary things. When you have had something steady in your life it is hard to see how to get the same comfort without them.

Losing weight is not just about the foods that you eat. It is a whole new way of life. Even the non-diet approach to weight loss requires some change. Although it does not limit the foods that you eat, you still have to change your mindset, develop a positive relationship with yourself, and begin to deal with the past. These are all changes in your lifestyle. Any change, even a positive one, can be scary.

Fear is a very normal part of losing weight. You must look at what you are most afraid of and face whatever is holding you back. Tackle this one thing, and then move onto the next. Talk with friends and family members; they may also experience a similar fear. Take back your life from fear today!
