Blueberries have some remarkable, healing powers. These little blue gems contain lots of phytonutrients which are known for fighting inflammation and lessening pain. If it’s not berry season, frozen blueberries can have the same or even more nutrients than fresh.
It has been known that eating blueberries can help one heal better after having surgery. They help reduce inflammation, mend damaged tissue, and strengthen tiny blood vessels traumatized by the operation.
Blueberries also help when one has an urinary tract infection (UTI). These little marvels provide the same anti-infection protection as their crimson cousins, cranberries, when it comes to keeping bacteria from binding to the bladder wall and causing UTIs. Add them to one’s daily diet.
When it comes to allergies, blueberries can help. They contain chemical compounds that inhibit the release of histamine the body chemical that causes congestion, so berry up!
Since this article is about feeling good with food, one certainly can’t feel great when one’s brain needs a good unclogging! Eating ½ cup of blueberries a day may clear the sludge from one’s memory banks and improve one’s balance and coordination, as found in a study conducted by Tufts University. Blueberries are reported to have the highest antioxidant content of any fruit or vegetable, so one should keep bags of frozen blueberries on hand and add them to oatmeal and salads for a brain-stimulating treat.

I live with, ‘photophobia’, a visual processing disorder, which is easily misdiagnosed as ‘dyslexia,’ and that’s why I wrote the book, “My Curly Hair Self: Living with a Visual Processing Disorder.” Now, I do live with glaucoma, but someone not diagnosed with glaucoma, can also have photophobia (a medical condition which falls under the category of physical disability) and that’s why my book is so important for those individuals who have trouble with reading, writing, or looking a Smartboard.
