"We are each responsible for our lives and, more important, the thoughts that create them. If you want your life to be more rewarding, you have to change the way you think."
— Oprah Winfrey
What you say when you talk to yourself has a huge impact on what happens in your life. The content of your thoughts has tremendous power over your emotions, actions and demeanor. It can be easy to get into bad habits when it comes to your internal dialogue, but choosing your thoughts more consciously can change the shape of your destiny.
A constant cycle of pessimistic thoughts will make a bad feeling seep into every aspect of your life. That frown, queasy stomach or general negative aura is your intuition sending you a message: snap out of it! The internal tension can build up, threatening to damage your work or relationships. It’s time to listen to your intuition’s alarm bells and redirect your thinking with one of the mantras below.
Negativity Bear Trapr
To get the full effect, try this experiment to see negativity in motion. (Caution: this might hurt a bit.) Think of something that you really want. Picture it in your head. Now grab your watch (or more likely your phone) and spend about thirty seconds telling yourself all of the reasons it’s never going to happen. Don’t hold back: “I'm not good enough, smart enough, fast enough, strong enough, pretty enough. I'm not lucky. It won’t work out for me. I mess everything up. It will never happen."
How do you feel? Maybe clammy, headachy, sick to your stomach? Your usual tension centers are starting to complain – lower back, or between the shoulder blades? Just half a minute of pretend negative thinking is manifesting physical symptoms. This is your intuition trying to steer you away from empty negativity. Recognize the symptoms, learn from it, and shake it off. It was just an exercise!
Happy Thoughtsr
Start over. Picture something you want – the reality that will exist when your dreams come true. Now spend thirty seconds saying:
- I'm so excited about achieving this.
- I deserve to have my dreams come true.
- I’m strong, smart, capable, brave, and deserving.
- I know I'm on the right track.
- I have what it takes to succeed at this and I won’t stop.
- Good things are coming my way.
- God is cheering me on to fulfill my dream.
- There are wonderful opportunities out there and I’m open to them.
Take stock of your body now. Hopefully you have a smile on your face. You’ve relaxed into a comfortable position. Your muscles are loose and you feel rejuvenated. This time your intuition approves of your train of thought. Positivity breeds positivity, and these happy thoughts are the fuel you need to work towards your goals. When you send out the right vibration, you attract what you desire.
Repeat this mental cheer-leading session whenever you need a boost. Pick the mantras that work best for you and imbue them with your most positive energy, then whip them out like a Swiss Army Knife of self-confidence when you’re feeling weak. Spiritual teacher Ron Rathbun said it best when he stated, "What you find in your mind is what you put there. Put good things in there."
