In order to successfully manage or even cure this condition, you must first know the foods to avoid for acid reflux. Because making the wrong food choice is the major ingredient for developing acid reflux, eating a healthy diet is critical.

Research indicates that 1 out of every 10 adults will experience the effects of acid reflux in their lifetime. This simply suggests that you must adopt a healthier life- style and maintain it throughout your lifetime.

Acid reflux is a chronic digestive problem that is extremely painful and ongoing. Most people choose over- the- counter drugs or even prescription drugs to manage the disease. Unfortunately, this treatment is temporary and only masks the symptoms.

The symptoms can last for several months; reoccurring weeks at a time. Long- term medication management can lead to more serious medical conditions such as cancer, hypertension, and even Alzheimer’s.

The disease begins to develop when the stomach’s liquid content and its enzymes fail to fully break- down the food that you eat. The acid from the stomach then travels back into the esophagus. Overtime, the acid will accumulate in the esophagus causing damage to the lining of the esophagus.

Once the esophagus is inflamed, you will begin to experience the painful symptoms. Most people will experience at least one, if not all, of these symptoms. The damaged esophagus initially produces a “fiery” burning sensation in the chest and/or throat area. You may also experience a sour taste in the mouth. The burning sensation is referred to as heartburn.

The sour taste, liquid content from the stomach is accompanied by bits of undigested food. This symptom is referred to as regurgitation. Other symptoms of acid reflux are belching, chest pain, dysphagia, hoarseness, and nausea. When you experience these symptoms, they will consistently reoccur unless you are aware of the foods to avoid for acid reflux.

Many foods that you eat irritate the stomach. More so, the foods will actually increase acid productivity in the stomach. Foods that are high in acid are especially dangerous for acid reflux patients. Eating healthy foods not only help cure acid reflux, but it satisfies the overall health.

Healthcare professionals recommend an acid reflux diet. This diet consists of foods that do not exacerbate acid production. Furthermore, the diet assists with weight loss. Foods to avoid for acid reflux include:

1. Spicy foods- (cajun, Mexican, peppers)
2. Tomato- based foods- (spaghetti, pizza, tomato juice/soup)
3. Fried/fatty foods
4. Citrus fruits
5. Sodas with caffeine
6. Chocolaten7. Peppermint
