It is always new and exciting to get a new pet. One of the most rewarding aspects of having a pet is getting to know your dog and experiencing the thrill of having man’s best friend in your very own home each and every day. So, once you get a new dog in the family, here are a few ways to help you bond through fun activities.
Dogs love exercising, and they always love going on walks or jogs with their owner. If you decide to exercise with your dog (they are the best accountability partners; they will hold you to it!) make sure that your dog is healthy and fit enough to keep up with you. Before starting a workout program with your dog, always be sure to check with your veterinarian. Dogs are like humans: they can get out of shape, and you don’t want to push them more than they are capable.
Dogs also love going to the park. There are all sorts of new sights and smells, and plenty of people to meet. Dogs enjoy going to new places (as long as it isn’t the veterinarian clinic!), and they will absolutely love you for it! Walk them around, and be sure to give them plenty of time to sniff around and check things out!
Another thing you can do is to build your a dog a house to go in the backyard. Take a warm spring afte
oon and put together a dog house, and then your dog will be glad that you have put in the time and effort to make them more comfortable and happy. It is fun, and you can encourage your dog to go in it as you build it, and then afterward when it is all finished. Every dog needs a doghouse!
Watch TV with your dog. It may sounds silly, but dogs enjoy sitting on the couch next to their owner as they sit and watch the big game or watch their favorite prime time TV show. Dogs are the perfect companions, and they love simply being beside people as they unwind. Dogs can also sense people’s feelings, oftentimes better than other humans! If you have had a long day or are upset or sad for some reason, dogs love to be there right next to you as they provide comfort by simply being there.
Dogs truly are man’s best friend, and it is wonderful to have the opportunity to do things with your pet, and to do things for your pet. Just like most things, it is nice to “switch things up a bit” with your dog. They always appreciate surprises, and dogs are always up for doing something fun and different. Also, if you have been working hard with your dog in the area of training, it would be nice to plan a fun trip to reward them for being good and for working hard. Have some fun with your dog! After all, they are your best friend.
