But……I can’t throw anything away.

But……I might need it someday.

But……It was expensive.

But……I’ve always done it this way.

But will get you know where BUT back to where you started!

If you are ready to spring clean, then you have to spring sort first. Try as hard as you might, you simply cannot organize clutter. In order to get organized, you are going to need to make some decisions about the things you have acquired.

When you get stuck, turn to these tough questions to decide what to keep and what to discard.

1. Will I need it again- and this means in the near future? (Someday…I might…maybe …are not answers. If you don’t know when you need it, out it goes!)

2. Why would I need it? (I might is not an answer.)

3. Where would I need it? (Put it where you can find it.)

4. Who would ask me for it? (Unless it is the IRS then that is no excuse to keep something. Give it to whoever you think you are saving it for.)

5. I used this when? (Not in 12 months – out it goes!)

6. What is the worst thing that could happen to me if I got rid of it?

Still stuck? Still can’t decide? Are you still say “but this” and “but that.”

Then pick up the item and repeat the following:

“I can’t possible go on without you in my world!”

If you can say that without cracking a smile, then you get to keep it!

Happy sorting.
