If you take a close look at a truly organized person, you'll immediately see that he or she is actually an expert at making good use of time. Although most of us feel as though we don’t have enough time, the truth is everyone gets exactly twenty-four hours to work with each day. In most cases, the difference between an organized, productive person and somebody who is disorganized and never seems to get anything done is simply how they utilize their time. If you'd like to get more organized and live a more enjoyable and productive life, it's time to learn a few helpful time management techniques.

Eliminate "Time-Wasters" from Your Life

Although everyone needs a little bit of "down time" now and then, it's important to take a good look at how you spend your leisure time. If you are honest with yourself, you might find that you spend most of your spare time watching television, playing online games, or other activities that tend to waste your time. It's certainly okay to engage in these activities once in a while as a form of relaxation. However, you should set specific time limits for yourself. Otherwise you might find that what started out as watching "just one television show" in the morning somehow turned into wasting your entire day in front of the television set. If you find it difficult to keep track of how much time you spend, an ordinary kitchen timer can often be helpful. Simply set the timer for a specific amount of time. Then, play your game or watch television until the timer rings. Once it rings, "playtime" is over and it's time to get back to work.

Plan Your Day Each Morning

Although it's probably not possible to plan every detail of your day in the morning, it can be helpful to at least form a basic game plan for your day. Try setting your alarm clock a half hour earlier than normal. Then, spend your newfound extra time making a task list for yourself, or at least deciding what you plan to work on throughout the day. If you are not really a "morning person," try making your list for the next day before you go to bed at night. You might be surprised how much better you can utilize your time if you already have a plan to follow.

Stop Procrastinating

Procrastination is one of the biggest time-wasters that most people have to deal with in their daily lives. If there's something that you need to get done, just get started on it. You'll probably find that just getting started is the hardest part of the entire job. If you find it difficult to get started on a large project, try breaking it down into smaller chunks. For example, instead of becoming overwhelmed by the thought of spending the entire day cleaning your house, commit to just spending an hour on the project. Once you get started, chances are it will seem easier to stick with the task until it is complete.
