Three Points to Remember about Money

“Money is the visible sign of a universal force, and this force in its manifestation on earth works on the vital and physical planes and is indispensible to the fullness of the outer life. In its origin and its true action it belongs to the Divine.” Sri Aurobindo

When you listen to CNN these days, to what reporters are finding as they interview Americans from all over the country---the same theme comes up time after time---jobs, the economy—the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. It is no wonder, especially when you realize how basic having enough money is to everything.

If you consider Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, you see that there is no real focus on self-actualization when you don’t know how you will pay the rent or feed your family or secure the fundamental things for survival.

In ancient religions, there are two goddesses that combine compassion and money. There is the Goddess of Compassion in Buddhism, Kwan Yin, who holds a coin in most representations, and Lakshmi, Hindu Goddess of Good Fortune and Beauty who is seen as the personification of abundance, prosperity, wealth, well-being and harmony. God is considered her mate.

So you see these qualities of Compassion, Well-being, Harmony, Abundance, Beauty and Union with the Divine all being associated with money. That is because money does support us in cultivating those other qualities, since we do not need to focus on survival, and are free to access higher levels of awareness. There are many places to read more about the historical connections between money and the Divine, but here I want to speak to how this manifests in your life and business.

There are 3 main points to remember when it comes to money:

1. Money is energy. It is directed by our thoughts and can take any form that we collectively agree upon----coins, papers, checks, cows in some places. This is important to return to when you are pricing your services. In business, we exchange energy through services and products for money. It is also something to remember when it comes time to invest in your business, either through equipment or mentoring or other forms of improvement.

2. Money must flow. If there is a barrier to that flow, in the thought forms of scarcity or greed or guilt, it will get damned up and float. It won’t reach you, but will float rather than flow in your life. This is much harder if you have grown up in a family where there was actual poverty or a poverty mindset, but is something that you can transform.

3. Money is love. It comes to us through others, not from others. It is, as the quote by Sri Aurobindo, “the visible sign of a universal force.” If you look at your relationship with money, you will learn a great deal about the way love works in your life as well.

If you don’t pay attention to money, it is not unlike being in a relationship where you don’t pay much attention to the person. Eventually that person will begin to drift away from you for lack of attention, and go elsewhere. Ask yourself if that has happened to you.

On the other hand, if you are obsessed with money---or with the lack of money------think about what happens when you are obsessed with a person in your life. Eventually they will try to get away from your grasping. Ask yourself if this has happened to you.

Affirmations such as The energy of love and money flows freely in my life are good to say often, and helpful in mentally shifting your mindset away from scarcity. Often however, it is not enough to only do that, in order to deal with the primordial knot of fear in the belly that goes with a perception of scarcity.

This is where some deeper emotional work is needed, and tools such as Emotional Freedom Technique or other energy-based techniques can help. I really recommend getting support if you are stuck here---invest in shifting this illusion in your life, and really see it as an investment in YOU.

It is an act of self-love to do so, and opens the portal to greater flow in your life, if you allow it.

The Quiet Surplus in the Medical Cabinet In many households across the country, a quiet accumulation happens behind the closed doors of bathroom cabinets and bedside drawers. Because health insurance often ships these supplies in bulk, or prescriptions change unexpectedly, it is remarkably common to find oneself with
