God's Strength Helps us Heal the Inner Child
Written by Dr. Paul Haider
n During our childhood, life may not have been all wine and roses. Sometimes things may have been bad, even terrible. This may have caused us to react in a particular way that may making our life miserable now.
For instance, I know a person who feels criticized no matter what someone says because of all the criticism he dealt with as a child. Consequently, it is very hard for him to hold down a job or have a relationship. No matter how someone words something, he takes it as a critical comment on his character, blows up, and walks away.
In these instances the inner child is working overtime trying to drag us back into the past. Our child is hurt and needs to be appeased. We need to learn why the child did what he did to protect himself. And then allow ourselves to move forward as the adult and create a new belief around that area of our life which creates wholeness and love.n n We might believe that as a child that when Dad got angry he said terrible things, so we might put together a belief that everyone is out to get us. Of course our conscious mind knows that is not true, but our unconscious doesn’t. Now is the time to formulate a new belief and start anew knowing that Dad was only doing his best and forgiving him for the past, forgetting and letting go.
Feelings are feelings and feelings don’t have a time frame---We only know what we are feeling and it could be 20 years ago or 2 days ago. Many times it works to have a friend stand in as Dad (or whoever it is) and look at him in the eyes and tell him what you need to say with great feeling and have Dad talk and ask for forgiveness. The unconscious mind does not know the difference and will connect to that emotion long ago and allow healing to take place. Thus breaking free from old bonds! The other key is to formulate new beliefs around that area of your life by creating affirmations to remind you of your new start.
It is possible to let go of deep seated ways of dealing with life which are stressful, but it does take work. But in the end it's all worth it, and you finally become a responsible adult and have the life you’ve always wanted. It takes allowing God to work through you to help you have the strength to work towards a great life. Love, Care and Support--Dr. Paul Haide
