Got Must-ibation?

Consider this:

How many times this week have you heard the expression – obviously – introducenan answer? I counted eight on CNBC interviews in one day. When we start offnwith – obviously - you are telling the listener to shut up because your view is the only sane approach. Try that in negotiation and you lose the argument and the war.

Listen to these killer phrases: you must, you have to, you ought to, or you should. They are concrete roadblocks in the middle of the roadway. Each phrase is tell me
I have no options, and it is your way – or the highway. They are Deal Breakers.

Knowingnn“Aw, I already know that!” You can think it - in your 3-pound coconut, or say itnaloud, Either way you close your mind to learning new information or discoveringna shade of knowledge or perhaps an example you never thought of.

Bank vaults weighing 10 tons use a dual-controlled combination time lock againstnentrance. I-already-know-that! is 3x stronger in closing your mind to new ideas.

Catastrophizing

We have closed three-times (3x) the number of financial transactions in the pass 30 days than in 2007. No brag, the amounts are staggering even in the age of billions.
So what?

If you read the newspapers, and watch CNN etc. Henny-Penny is running around the farm yard screaming – the sky is falling, and we are all doomed!

Castastrophizing is an irrational belief that something is far worse than it actually is. This economy is not a calamity, fiasco, disaster nor cataclysm (flood). It is partnof a cycle which goes up for a decade and stops for profit-taking (recession), andnreadjusts the playing field.

It squeezes out the fat, and this time it is the financial institutions and brokerages houses that tanked, last time it was the Dot Coms. And the economy absorbs them, and moves forward once again.

Present unemployment in under 7% and may reach 10% in 2009.
In 1929-33 unemployment hung between 25-33%, and when itntu
ed in 1939, employment was 99% of the labor force. It is a cycle.

The obverse of the coin when unemployment was 25%, was to trade withnthe 75% who were benefiting by the lack of competition.

What is B.I.N.G.O.

The only thing we have to fear – is our own mind terrorizing our attitudes andnbehaviors. There is a baby-easy strategy to loosen the chains of catastrophizing, nand it works with both kids and adults.

Ever experience the scenario of an 8-year old falling off his first two-wheeler,nand lying on the road bleeding profusely from his knees and palms?

To the child without experience, this catastrophe is permanent and he/she mayndie. There they lie paralyzed, crying and bleeding, with the sure knowledge thei
life is over.

Should you reassure him/her with adult words or first delete the negative mental-movies and prepare the child to try again?

The sequence is: the activating event (bleeding), to the interpretation (beliefs and nevaluation) of the consequences, and finally the emotions involved.

“I am bleeding and it will never end. I could die.” Now the brain, specifically the
Amygdala in the Limbic System (control of emotions-instincts-reflexes), hi-jacksnthe reasoning mind by producing mental-movies of death and destruction. n
Have you personally experience a disaster – losing a job, ending a relationship, nor requiring a medical procedure (prostate surgery) and stopped functioningnbecause you expected the worse?

Your fight-or-flight syndrome kicks in and you are cannot think, react reasonably or behave in a planned, logical way. You keep thinking about what occurred and your negative predictions of the future. That is truly a catastrophe.

The B.I.N.G.O, Strategy

You can delete the negative mental-movies in less than 90 seconds. All it takesnto help the child or yourself is to use your conscious mind (left-hemisphere)nto play a little game that takes dominance from the projectionist in your right-nhemisphere.

“There was a farmer who had a dog, and Bingo was his name-o.
B.I.N.G.O. - B.I.N.G.O. – and Bingo was his name-o.”

You slap you hand against your leg for each missing letter, as you chantndown from the B to the O in Bingo.

Google: B.I.N.G.O and discover a powerful new tool. If you want more details, ask us how Bingo works its magic on kids and adults.

Ipse Dixit

Ipse Dixit, a Latin phrase, means, - he himself, has said it -. It is an appeal to an unimpeachable authority for your credibility. If you speak to a scientistnand say, Einstein created this formula, you take on the mantle of the master.

In legal circles Ipse Dixit translates to an allegation without proof to support it.
It is a criticism made of an unsupported rhetorical assertion that lacks a logical nargument. Ipse Dixit was coined by Cicero, about the students of Pythagoras.

They ended each discussion with Ipse Dixit, Pythagoras had said it. End of ndiscussion. If your supervisor tells you the CEO of your organization said it,nthat means to stop arguing your side of the issue. It makes a lot of enemies.

Endwords

Would it help your career or your kids in school, to read and remember threen(3) books, articles and reports in the time your peers or competitors can hardlynread one? Ask us how.

“In any moment of decision the best thing you can do is the Right Thing. Thennext best thing is the wrong thing, and the worse thing you can do is Nothing.”
Teddy Roosevelt, 26th prez.

“The most successful people are those who are good at Plan B.” Have a backup.

See ya,
