In recent days, we have seen numerous rivers flood above the levies while communities sandbag like crazy to keep the water out of their homes and businesses. If the flood persists or gets worse, we know that there is only so much that can be done before the levies burst and flood through the community. Well, there is a flood of regulation, mandates and industry requirements coming to every community in this country. And, you can’t just bail water and hope that it will go away.
The environmental issues are building. The sheer population issues seem like the rise torrent of an impending flood. The increased demand for resources mean that we can’t bail for long, and other environmental problem are like chunks of ice that hammer at our way of life. What is coming to each and every community is going to be devastating.
For example, the EPA has recently closed several coal-fired electric plants. This pulls much needed resources off the grid, and of course, replacing such facilities with nuclear or other energy is a languishing question. As land fills reach their limits, oil prices blow by $100 per barrel, and worries that water will be the next environmental crisis; can we ignore this flood of ugly truth?
The U.S. Census Bureau reports more than 27 million businesses in the United States. Does anyone want to venture a guess as to how many of these businesses are doing little more than hollow greenwashing? While many companies try to convince their customers that they are Green, less than 5% of the businesses in any community are certifiably Green according to a credible national standard.
Going Green is not like slapping on another coat of paint over the weekend. There is a growing demand for competent Green consultants and auditors who have the ability to help businesses in every community Go Green.
