Happiness Creates Wealth, Part 1

I’m not bashing money. I love to play with money. I enjoy having it. I like to generate it, spend it, save it, give it away, think about it and wonder at it. However, the idea that money creates happiness is actually backwards. What is true is that happiness creates wealth.

When you encounter people who are positive and happy, don’t you like to be around them? Aren’t they fun? These sorts of people attract other positive people, and they attract opportunity. n Happiness creates wealth in all of its forms. The etymology of the word “wealth” is well-being. True wealth incorporates money, health, relationships, time to do the things you want to do, having meaning and purpose in your day-to-day existence. When you remember to fall in love with life, financial wealth is the low hanging-fruit on a lush and verdant tree.

When was the last time you got into the shower, turned on the water and let yourself be amazed that water came out of the faucet? Do you ever get excited about producing light with the flick of a switch? Have you ever lain on the ground under a spectacular sky and watched the stars spinning around you for so long that you became grateful to the earth for holding you close to her and keeping you from getting lost in space? Do you watch your children sleeping and wonder that you could ever love that much? Have you ever woken up to a sound you later recognized as your own breathing and given thanks for the awareness that you are alive for another day? Do you ever catch yourself smiling for no reason? Try it. When you show up for life in this way, you will be amazed at what happens. n
