Harnessing Your superpowers

“We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be?” We absolutely love this quote from Marianne Williamson.
And do you want to know what really breaks our hearts? It’s when we see people who are so full of potential, not step into their greatness… Because they are worried about what others will think, or they don’t think they are worthy, or they don’t think they are good, perfect special, or unique enough.
We’d like to put this in perspective and to do this, we need to turn to the 7-year old nephew of a friend of ours who has this awesome expression, “We all have different superpowers.”
It’s so simple, so profound and so critical to growing a successful business.
Now this concept may or may not be a revelation to you, but when you really look at it, we all truly do have different, amazing and unique gifts that we have been given, and for the sake of this conversation, let’s just call them “Super Powers”.
Now when we think about the different super heroes of our youth we begin to see a pattern: Aquaman the master of the oceans, Wonder Woman the super human Amazon princess, Spiderman with his Spidey-sense, Bat Man “The Caped Crusader”, Superman who was the man of steel, etc, etc….
They all have 1 or 2 powers/attributes that make them very unique — powerful — memorable AND no other super hero really has the same power in the same way.
The same is true in business.
You have certain points-of-view, attributes, “Super Powers” that makes you different from anyone else on the planet. This means that no one who is in your business is just like you.
But every so often we see someone else having success and we try to copy what they are doing, maybe even try to copy their Super Power.
That’s like Aquaman trying to jump off a building like Superman… next thing you know he’s not flying, he’s falling.
Paige and I did that when we were starting out, we tried to copy other people’s Super Powers – their passions, their strengths and what did we get for our troubles? A homogenized message and look that attracted ZERO clients, no money and it even had us questioning our calling and our dreams.
Then we began to look at OUR Super Powers. We started looking at what made us special, what made us stand out and what made us different and unique.
In marketing language it’s called your USP — your Unique Selling Proposition.
And once we got clear about that, we were able to speak OUR truth, start using OUR power, begin standing in OUR strengths and OUR business took off! Because we were being ourselves, we were being authentic.
We had a call with a client the other day and she had a huge ‘aha’ moment when she finally shared a piece of her story. She had been holding back, not wanting to share this piece because she felt a little embarrassed by it. But it was the fact that she had experienced this, been able to move through it and come out on the other side stronger and wiser that that revealed her Super Powers to us.
And once we were clear about her Super Powers her whole business fell into place. Her message, her marketing, her clients, her copy — all became crystal clear. As she stepped into her Super Powers, she flew into her business!
