The first thing that you need to do when you start experiencing headache symptoms is to get your head gently massaged by someone. Headaches can spread a numbness throughout your head and therefore it is essential that blood flow towards it been immediately re-instated. Lie straight or in the sideways position (depending on which portion of your head is aching) and tell your helper to massage from the scalp to the back of the head slowly. Massage provides a soothing effect and helps in alleviating pain.

Pour hot water over your head. This is a technique proven to have cured or drastically reduced many a headaches. The water’s warmth helps the blood vessels to expand enabling your body to pump blood towards your brain. This is in turn can reduce headaches to a large extent. Headaches can also cause the forehead and scalp to become very hot and in order to cool these body parts down, one can also resort to cold therapy. Keep an ice pack on the affected area for some time or else cover it up with a damp cloth. This will help to bring the body temperature and aid in faster healing.

Force yourself into sleeping. Sleeping is often known to be the best cure for headaches because most headaches are gone following a good period of sleep. Find a room where you won’t be disturbed and dim the lights so as to make it much more comfortable for you to sleep. However despite following these instructions, if the headache refuses to leave you then pop in the pill. If the headaches continue to occur regularly, it may very well be a migraine and for this you need to consult a good doctor because migraines are often incurable without medical intervention.

Also take precautions to prevent headaches and migraines from occurring. Always put on a cap and sunglasses while going out and avoid being under the sun for too long. Cough and cold are also known to indirectly result in headaches, so try to avoid cold foodstuffs as far as possible. The tips given here will ensure that you better equipped in case you suffer from headaches or migraines the next time around.
