Your story is a collection of thoughts and beliefs that you have gathered and now use to describe yourself and how you see yourself fitting into this world during the holiday. And while your story is not necessarily reality you have told yourself this story so many times that it now strongly influences your habits and behaviors. What is your story? Are you the one who can't pass up pumpkin pie? Are you the one who bakes (and eats) all the Christmas cookies? Are you the one goes crazy for egg nog? Are you the one who swoons over all the holiday goodies? What happens when you believe and go along with your story? Does it cause you to eat even if you aren’t hungry? Does it cause you to make poor choices just because? How does it make you feel inside? How does it impact your interactions with other people? If your story is causing you to act in a way that promotes weight gain in any way then you must change that story before you can expect weight loss success. Start now to create a new story and imagine yourself living that new way. For instance, start to see yourself eating a small piece of pumpkin and then easily leaving the rest on the table. See yourself feeling at peace and in control as you sit down to a big holiday meal. Create an image of yourself getting everyone outside for an "after meal" walk and imagine how good it feels to be out in the brisk fresh air. Your diet does not have to become a victim of the holiday abundance but in order for you to move through the holiday without overeating you must see yourself living a new story.
