Honor and respect are two important things that you learn in life; they both go hand-in-hand. You learn from others by their words and actions. This teaches you; who is going to keep their word and who just tells you things that you may want to hear. It will define who is going to show up when they tell you they’re going to or who will pay you back the money you leant them. It shows you who will honor their word and who respects you.
In life you have three types of people; a person of their word, a person of action and a person who does both. If you are a person who exudes both qualities, that is fantastic! I hope and pray that these two special qualities will withstand the test of time.
Hold yourself in high regards, show honor to yourself by honoring your words. Honor is not a thing of the past; it lives in those who treasure its meaning. Do not speak if your intention is never to deliver. Do not promise or lead someone on by ill intentions. Honor what you say by doing what you said you’d do. Keep a promise or remain silent. Do not use others for your own personal gain; there is no honor in that!
You have to honor the work and the effort of others. If you do not do so, they will lose all respect for you. This is how companies lose valuable employees, by the employer not honoring the time, effort and results of an employee’s hard work. Everyone’s time is valuable; honor someone who is spending their time on you.
There are different types of respect but the two most important are self-respect and the respect of others. You have to hold yourself in high regards; no one else is going to do this for you. What this means is, you have to hold yourself accountable for your own actions. For an example, there is respect for your body. You are responsible for bathing, the exercise you do or don’t do and by what you consume.
Did you notice that I did not include appearance? The reaso
I didn’t is because it is important to note that a person can keep up their appearance as long as they have the ability to do so. This entails having the funds for washing clothes, shampoo, etc. This entails that someone has the money to have a roof over their head. If I see a homeless person do I have respect for that person? Yes I do. Their appearance may not be how they would like for it to be. They might have come across some hard times and are having troubles getting back on their feet, they could have a mental illness or drug/alcohol issues. But, I will always respect them for being a fellow human being. I will honor them by helping them in some way.
Love and respect yourself; your body, your mind and your soul. Learn to love all of your qualities and traits. It is hard to respect someone if they don’t even respect themselves. You show others how to treat you. Demand respect, but you also have to give it.
If you show love and respect to someone who doesn’t love and respect themselves, you will notice both physical and emotional responses. The will shy away from you and will not know how to reply to a compliment. Help others by lifting them up, show them what their true worth is and how they can help give back to society by helping others. Show and teach our youth how to respect themselves and how to respect others. Show honor to those around you and honor yourself by being a person who keeps their word and takes the appropriate actions. Show respect for the job you have, the car you own, the house you have, etc.
Not sure how to show honor or respect? I honor my car by maintaining it. I honor my body by taking care of it. I honor my friendships by nurturing them. I respect myself and all others.
Show honor and respect to all things in this world. What you feel and exude will travel the globe and return to you.
