It’s no secret that Boomers make up the majority of the world population. Even while there is much discussed about the “graying of America, it is certainly not in a negative way. England and France have boomers as Presidents/Leaders. Hillary had a running chance to be added to that list.

Boomers have received enormous power and influence and that doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. You are conservative and liberal, from all walks of life including education and incomes. You do not always agree but you are strong in your own beliefs systems.

The Democratic Convention in Denver and the Republican in Minneapolis/St. Paul will bring people from all over the country. Passions will be high, security will be higher and the excitement never ending. Controversial topics will flow like rivers, but there appears to be one topic that is on the tips of everyone tongues.

The Economy. While the economy touches everyone of every generation for Baby Boomers it can be especially frightening. The pension that The Greatest Generation and The Silent Generation had to count on for their retirement incomes barely exists anymore. Boomers, you are on their own and statistically, you have not done a good job saving. With a poor economy and rising inflation this creates a need for Boomers to probably work well past the ‘normal’ retirement age of 65 years old.

Granted, at least half of Boomers say they will work past 65 years, not just for the money but because they can’t imagine having the next 20, 30 or even 40 years of Saturdays. For you it’s a matter of finding passion and purpose that you don’t believe can be found on the golf course or at the fishing hole. You will create your own futures that will include working at a job/career or calling that will also provide income. And if you are really fortunate, health insurance.

How do see your future? How much do your believe politics will effect your years ahead, primarily your retirement years? Are you active politically? Baby Boomers have always had a strong and vibrant voice. This voice is not going away anytime soon. So, grab your appointment books and on November 4, 2008 pen in VOTE.nnn

I wonder how many of you even know. I'll bet a lot of you don't know. Or you kind of know but not really. It's vitally important for you to know. For some of you, if you have a more 'elaborate' retirement planned (lots of travel etc) you will need more than someone who has very simple wants and desires. There certainly is no right way but you need to know your truth. One of the lucky things about being a woman is you generally live longer than men. Wonderful!! But you will need more money.

Ethical Wills have been around for many generations but seem to be regaining their strength. That may be simply because many of you are getting to the stage in life where you begin thinking about what you are passing along to your children or other loved ones. Another term for Ethical Wills might be a “Values and Vision Statement.” In a nutshell, it is a tool for passing your memories, values and traditions to your loved ones and future generations. Keep in mind that an Ethical Will is not a legal document.
