How Social Media Privacy is like the Zombie Apocalypse

Social media privacy is like the zombie apocalypse because the social media systems and search engines are like zombies themselves. They look to devour any privacy a user has on their systems, and they do this voraciously, unrelentingly, and they also do it with deadly accuracy. That means that every person on the social system must be very careful about how they use that system, or they risk losing all their privacy.

In a major zombie game, there is a story of a group of survivors who go into a farmland and what they have to do is protect themselves from the zombies. This is much like the social media apocalypse, and I jokingly say that because the social media apocalypse of course is the loss of privacy. However, when they go on to this farmland, they meet a family that seems nice at first, and seems to be interested in helping them, but what they do not realize is that this family is out to get them. This is similar to how the social systems work because they seem friendly and useful at the time, but they do have an ulterior motive just like this family. What you discover later in the game is that when one of your companions gets hurt, they actually use him as a food source because the food source has been scarce, and you find him upstairs with a loss of a few limbs. This equates again to social media privacy because you could easily lose many of your social privacy limbs while using social media without realizing that you are effectively cutting off your own limbs for the social systems dinner. The truth is revealed only with further investigation. What you find out is that the social media systems are insatiable and are always looking for newer and better ways to get more information about you, so that they can sell that information to their marketing partners who will then attempt to sell you adds and so forth on the machine. You will not know this until it has been done to you. Unfortunately, when that moment comes it is too late.

Therefore, the social media systems will not stop until all your privacy is taken from you and the only solution to this is to get a social system that believes that everything you post should be private by default and not by selection. The problem with most social media systems is that they believe that most of the privacy settings should be set to public from the default, and this is a massive problem for anybody who is looking to have privacy on their social media system, as most people should.

As I have stated before, these social systems use this information to sell to third parties for marketing purposes. That means they use this information to specifically target you with an ad in the hopes that you will buy something and, usually, these ads are very targeted to the type of person you are because they get a lot of demographic information about you. This fact makes it very hard to resist these marketing offers. Therefore, social privacy is like a zombie apocalypse.
