The wisest man in history summarized success and achieving full potential in just two words - literally!

Who was this man?

He was an ancient Greek philosopher credited with exerting a powerful influence upon the founders of Western philosophy, particularly Plato and Aristotle.

His name was Socrates - the legendary philosopher!

I really enjoy learning about success wisdom through the ages, so one day I decided to look for some quotes by Socrates to see if there was anything in Socratic wisdom that could relate to achieving success in life.

I was stunned when I came across one of Socrates’ most famous quotes - a quote that literally summarized in just two words how a person could unleash his full potential and achieve success.

And those two amazing words...?

"Know yourself!"

From my point of view, this simple yet profound phrase is by far the best piece of wisdom that Socrates ever offered to his fellow man!

Those two little words hold the key to unleashing your full personal power. The more you know about yourself, the more you can achieve. If you don't know yourself really well, you'll end up limiting yourself by playing it safe - and in doing so, you’ll waste 95% of your true potential.

Do you know how powerful you are? Don't just look at who you are right now - look at what you can be! You're one of God's most magnificent creatures. You have a brain with fantastic powers and potential. Just think - despite the greatest advancements in biology and anatomy, scientists have only just begun to discover the true capabilities of the brain.

Did you know that:nn- Einstein's brain was of average size.nn- Your heart beats 101,000 times a day.nn- 50,000 of the cells in your body will die and be replaced by new cells in the time it takes you to read this sentence!nn- In one hour, your heart works hard enough to produce the equivalent energy to raise almost one ton of weight one yard off the ground.nn- In one square inch of skin there are four yards of nerve fibers, 1300 nerve cells, 100 sweat glands, three million cells, and three yards of blood vessels.nn- There are 45 miles of nerves in a human being.nn- One human brain generates more electrical impulses in a single day than all of the world's telephones put together.nn- If your entire DNA is stretched out, it would reach to the moon 6,000 times.nn- The muscle that controls the blinking of your eye is the fastest muscle in your body.nn- Behind the iris of your eye is a soft, rubbery lens that focuses light onto the retina. The retina contains about 125 million rods and 7 million cones. The rods pick up shades of grey and help us see in dim light, and the cones work best in bright light to pick up colors.nn- We actually do not see with our eyes, we see with our brains. The eyes are basically the cameras of the brain. One-quarter of the brain is used to control the eyes.

And that’s just to mention a few of the facts scientists have discovered so far!

And then you hear people say, “I can’t.” Throw that word in the trash can! Burn it, bury it, and forget about it FOREVER.

With all your miracles, how on earth can you say you “can’t?” If you can’t, then who CAN?

Wake up, wake up, WAKE UP!

Look inside yourself and you'll find one miracle after another. With all that potential and all those capabilities, why are you limiting yourself?

Know who you truly are and you will soon understand what you can achieve. Just believe in yourself. Know your values and beliefs. Know your talents and passions. Know your true purpose and what you're meant to do in this life. Know your strengths as well as your weaknesses.

Know yourself. You live with yourself more than you live with anyone else. Don't you think you should know everything about your everlasting partner?

I’m going to ask you to do one thing - I promise, just one thing! But in return, please promise me that you will do it. I know you will.

Starting today, find out more about yourself than you know about your favorite movie star. Fair enough?

Believe me, the world needs you and you can make a difference - a BIG difference. When you know who you truly are, you will be amazed at what you can be and do in this life. Unleash YOURSELF!

The Socratic wisdom is simple. All you have to do is follow the advice of those two little words: “Know yourself!” Your success is waiting just around the corner.

My business gives me the opportunity to work with many wonderful people as a client and as a supplier of services. Some time back however, I found myself doubting. I have been doubting other people and their integrity. I found myself in the position where I was filtering all my interactions through the polarising lens of a few souring experiences. In this space and sense of doubting others I had felt unable to create words or metaphors which could possibly be of service to you. So what changed? Frankly, Brett Godfrey did.

In the last week I have worked with 2 different people who are struggling to get their message across. They each have an idea and are being blocked by another persons’ apparent stubbornness. In each case when they analysed what was happening they discovered that the other person was not in fact being stubborn, but they were reacting emotionally to an inexpertly delivered message. What to do if you are being blocked.

We cover the topic of Locus of Control in our Leadership programs, so it is 2nd nature for me to take full ownership for whatever outcomes I am creating in my life. After all why teach it if I am not living it? REcently I have had some events seemingly “happen to me” which rocked my belief in my own control over the results I get. Before I get on with that part of the story a short discussion on what exactly is Locus of Control and how can we use it…rnr

Several of my coaching clients have requested support with either time management or work life balance When we have a discovery conversation on their challenge there is generally much more to discuss on the topic of insufficient delegation. They're keeping excessive responsibilities, authority and duty to their and their company's detriment. Consequently they under perform at their own level. They hold themselves back or suffer from a lack of balance in their lives with too many hours at work.
