Over the past 10 years, we have witnessed remarkable progressions and shifts in how real estate marketing plans are conducted both online and offline. From smart phones to mobile marketing to social media platforms—these are just a few options provided which help increase both influence and marketability within our local areas. Yet, as many have already discovered, these super slick “solutions” and gadgets can sometimes cause more harm than good. You know exactly what I mean. There may even be some reading this right now who like to reflect back on the good ‘ol days of Rolodex cards, snail mail real estate marketing tactics, endless networking clubs, and receptionists (or maybe just try calling me back in 3 hours because I have no voicemail). What have we done to ourselves? Now it’s all too easy to roll out of bed and immediately start checking emails, website stats, voicemails, Facebook messages, Twitter updates, new opt ins, Craigslist ads and so on. We live in an era where this ever evolving technology and can either make or break your business. So here’s a quick question for you… Do You Own Every Aspect of Your Real Estate Marketing Plan or Does It Own You??? We see too many real estate professionals getting spanked daily because they haven’t discovered how to time manage this stuff. It’s all too easy to get siked about all the cool bells and whistles and become completely OCD over things that don’t really matter. Technology can either be a huge money maker or a time waster. What do I mean by this? Well for one thing, you can sign into your Facebook account to check out your page, review and reach out to all your new fans, broadcast a blog post or an industry news article to your wall, and within seconds find yourself looking through everyone’s news feed and checking out pictures of your neighbor’s niece’s birthday party. Or maybe you are the one who hits refresh every 5 minutes for incoming email messages, or to see if any new visitors came to your sites. Got an iphone? Consider the amounts of time you may spend texting, downloading apps, obsessing over your sites and taking “urgent” phone calls. Stop The Madness!!! If you find yourself suffering from these or other related real estate marketing disorders, it’s time to get back to the basics. Consider taking the following fast. Commit an hour or so per day to pure content creation. This can even include the time to research and post to your various sites. Also, continue to read and educate yourself on changes in your market and within the technology realm. Sign up for some newsletters, online trade magazines or Google Alerts. Do one thing each day that will bring you at least one new lead for your business. And then set aside a short amount of time each day to go through messages, stats, and perhaps some tweaks and improvements. Leave the aforementioned time wasters for after working hours. By following a detailed real estate marketing plan, you will think much more clearly, be less distracted and will start to see a huge improvement in overall health of your business.
