How To Build A List For Successful Internet Marketing
Written by Merv Stevens
Figuring out how to build a list is one of the most challenging problems faced by new Internet marketers. On the one hand, there are the technical aspects. Internet marketers must determine which scripts they need to create opt-in boxes, the main elements responsible for generating a list. Secondly, there is the issue of copywriting. To get a person to sign up for your list, you must entice them with a psychological trigger. Combine this with attractive opt-in boxes, and you are well on your way to generating a list of hundreds, maybe even thousands of leads.
With that being said, when figuring out how to build a list, the first thing you need to do is organize your campaign. In addition to planning your copy, you must create an incentive to encourage your respondents to subscribe. The majority of Internet marketers give away free e-books, which is a good start for beginners. You can either create one based on your niche, or you can buy PLR.
PLRs are premade e-books that give buyers exclusive rights to the content. In either case, read through your material and highlight points that would be of interest to your audience. Include them in your copy, making sure you use a bulleted list. From there, create an introduction to lead the reader to these points. Your introduction should focus on your e-book's main purpose, and it should be in the form of a question. After this question is asked, the rest of the copy needs to explain how your e-book will solve the problem.
At the end of your copy, you need to include your opt-in box. If Web surfers are interested, they will provide their email address and anything else you ask. With this information in hand, you can then send them their free e-book. From that point forward, any additional communication can be continued through the subscriber's email. As long as they do not unsubscribe, you are free to advertise based on the permissions they gave in your opt-in box.
This leads into the next difficulty Internet marketers face when learning how to build a list: the opt-in box. The box in itself is simple enough; it usually consists of a couple of text fields asking respondents for their first name and email address. However, the HTML surrounding these boxes can be confusing. In addition, there is also the issue of email management, once the leads start coming in. Trying to manage 1,000 or more leads is not easy for anyone. Assuming a person's email provider can even handle that type of processing, it would take several days to send a batch of e-books and newsletters.
This is why most Internet marketers use automated services to handle their list building. Known as auto responders, these powerful services have the ability to send one email to everyone on the list. They can also help Internet marketers create their opt-in boxes. All the marketers have to do is copy and paste prewritten code, and the boxes are automatically implemented into their website. From there, the auto responder takes care of everything, giving the Internet marketer more time to create their campaigns.
