Depressed. Dragging. In a funk.
I woke up that way today at 4:30 a.m. There’s no good reason for it. I understand that I make my own reality, but I was having trouble turning off the funk. I got up, threw some clothes on in the dark and stumbled my way downstairs into the office. I know that I can change my world by changing my thinking. The question is HOW do I get there? A friend texted me last night that she’s frustrated because was expecting a settlement as a result of a terrible car accident that left her in a wheelchair and unable to work. “The atto eys are running me through a ringer, and my confidence has been altered,” she said. “I really need a Miracle On 34th Street where they say, yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus.” There wasn’t much I could say except to keep positive, and that it will happen. It sounds childish, but there’s really more to it than that. And today, I needed to remind myself of that. I listened to a lot of Louise Hay when I was first divorced. I would turn on her calming voice in the car on my way to work. Her story is amazing. So I turned on this video (http://youtu.be/XwyfwIbluWM) and it gave me the contrast that I needed to step away from my funk. She talks about bumbling through life, and working in dime stores after escaping a life of violent abuse. The road was bumpy but not without joy. After becoming a show room model, she married a Brit and they lived together for 18 wonderful years. She became more polished, and settled into a happy life. But Hay plunged back into failure mode when that marriage fell apart. It all stemmed from her early abuse and her inability to accept herself as a worthy person. If she could bounce back, then so could I. Her story had helped me before and it did again today. So what are the steps to changing your thoughts?
Start by doing affirmations. Make positive statements about your life. As you start to do them, things will start to change. You’ll know it too. “You’ll get the green lights and the parking spaces,” she says. What are affirmations?
Look at yourself in the mirror. Tell yourself, looking right into your eyes these things: I love and approve of myself. I’m healthy and energetic. I’m earning good money doing work that I love. Sure, it’s going to feel silly at first. But there is a payoff. And what do you have to lose? It doesn’t cost anything, and the worst that can happen is that you learn how to look at yourself square in the eyes without flinching.“But it’s not working…”
That’s how I felt this morning. I needed a course correction. Remember this: When you are speaking the words and doing the work and not getting the result you want it’s because your words are not describing how you feel, and your emotions are the necessary juice you need for the universe to work with you. That’s what people talk about when they say they are “manifesting.” Do you remember what it was like to fall in love, and the rush of joy that you felt? Or how about when you got a new job, or aced a test? Those emotions push you forward and keep you healthy. That’s the juice you need. Imagine the feeling you have when your goal has been reached or your problem has been solved. What will you do? What will you feel like? How will you embrace the day, knowing that you’ve accomplished what you wanted? So that was my job for myself today, in the hours before the sun came up and I sipped my coffee in the quiet of my office. I allowed myself to feel my own issues resolved, and by noon, I was feeling better. The barriers in your life must be released one by one, Hay says. Make a conscious choice to let go of how things are supposed to be, and know that you are greater than you believe. You have incredible opportunities, and power that you have barely touched. Believe it. Know it. That’s a day brightener, for sure. “What you think and what you believe is what will come true for you,” she says. “It’s that simple.” P.S. Your belief is the foundation for your success, and it's also true at the Empower Network. I use their system to help me in my career.
