“Quick, Honey,” I said, “get your shoes in the closet, and make sure the remote controls aren’t all over the place.”
The videographer from a local TV network affiliate was about to arrive. And the clips were to be used as part of my intro as I keynoted an event.
So I dashed around to and fro making sure the house was pretty tidy.
Crazy isn’t it? Why don’t I worry about cleaning my heart, my attitude, my habits and complaining tendencies instead?
That should be my priority as God doesn’t need a video camera. He’s already there sitting on the sofa of my heart. He’s observing where I put my faith. Where I tucked my trust. And how much joy I stored in this life of mine.
I made a decision—to make sure my heart is tidy “For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him (II Chronicles 16:9).
Father, even though my life isn’t perfect, my flaws are evident, my weaknesses real, help me to have a heart that is perfectly clean for you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
- What needs cleaning up in your life?
- What will you do to make the needed changes?
- What will fill your heart today?

About the Author
When Retinitis Pigmentosa, an incurable retinal disease, took my sight completely at the age of 31, I never imagined doing all these things. Crazy, I know, but God never said our experiences on this earth would make sense. He just said that with Him, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).
My triumph began when I stopped trying to solve my problems on my own. I let go my stubborn pride, wiped the tears from my eyes, and nodded as I said ‘yes’ to God’s invitation to seek Him first. I invited Jesus to be the center of my life, the source of all and the light for my path. Then wisdom filled my heart. What a silly chica I had been–I was seeking first to see again, to have a ‘normal’ life. But God had a different order of priorities. And when I obeyed, to my delight, He put everything in place as He promised in Mathew 6:33.
Inhaling a deep breath, I took His hand. Step by step, He gave me a new kind of sight. I saw, really saw the beauty the eyes of the heart can see when He parts the curtain of gloom.
What happened next was that a burst of passion to inspire others filled my heart. And here I am, to show you, to prove to you that His promise is meant for you, too.
I commit to ignite in you the passion to take a bold step. The step to believe that no one, or nothing else, but Christ’s power in you that will bring solutions, triumph, confidence and joy.
