How to build the wooden swing set
To make a wooden swing set of this level, the two options that you have are either you can hire a contractor to get it built, or you can try it yourself. I don’t think choosing either of the options is a good idea. The first approach will prove to be really expensive and the second option is risky, time-consuming and full of hassles. You won’t even have proper knowledge about the right hardware that will make your swing set strong enough to support a swinging child. The best option is to use a DIY swing set of your choice and build it yourself. I have three kids, and I wanted to build something in our backyard that would be a complete package for them. So, I decided to build a swing set. I browsed the internet and chose one of the DIY swing set plans; it had everything I wanted for my kids, a trapeze bar, two swings, sandbox, wave slide, canopy fort, ladder. Within a half of the price and efforts, I was able to build a magnificent swing set. I am sharing the steps with you so that you can build your swing set without getting puzzled. If you follow these steps, you will be able to build a sturdy swing set for your kids, along with the sandbox, trapeze bar wave slide, and more. Here are the parts that you will need: Material required: -Seven pieces of Pressure-treated lumber in size 4 x 4 x 8.' -Five pieces of Pressure-treated lumber in size 2 x 4 x 10.' -Eight Pressure-treated lumber pieces of size 2 x 6 x 10.' -Three Pressure-treated lumber pieces of size 1 x 4 x 8.' -Six Pressure-treated lumber pieces of size 5/4 x 6 x 8.' -One Pressure-treated lumber piece of 4 x 6 x 8’ size -One Pressure-treated lumber piece of size 4 x 6 x 12.' -Two pieces of Pressure-treated lumber in size 4 x 4 x 12.' -Two pieces of Pressure-treated lumber in size 4 x 4 x 10.' -Ten Pressure-treated lumber pieces of size 2 x 6 x 12.' -Play sand -Bark mulch -Decking screws of size 1 inch1. Construction of Fort
The first step is to cut the swing set parts from lumber wood. Drill holes for bolts and lag screws wherever required and do trial and error to fit the sub parts and carry them to the place where you want to build the swing set. To build the elevated fort, take four posts of size 4X4, two sandbox boards of size 2X6 and two tarp boards of size 2X4. Then you have to fasten all of them together into sub-parts. Each of the subparts will consist of a pair of posts, sandbox board and a tarp board. Put these sub-assemblies upright and place them in position. Now you need to put a horizontal deck support of size 4X4 between each set of posts. The holes have already been created by you in each of the deck support. Level them up and clamp them in place as required. Now with the help of the bolt holes, mark the position of the holes in the posts. Remove the supports and drill the holes right through the posts. Once done, screw the deck supports in place.2. Place the canopy posts upright
Place the canopy posts in erect position. Drill bolt holes through the deck support right through the supports. Now bolt each of the canopy posts in the correct position in a loose manner. Put 2X4 brace between each of the canopy posts and using a lag-screw attach it to each of each post. Position the canopy posts in upright position and use the 4-foot level to make sure that they are joined correctly and tighten the nuts on the bolts.3. Tighten the joint on boards
Next, join the deck boards to the deck supports and place the deck stringer. You need to remember that 8 out of the 11 deck boards are cut out from the 2X6 lumber pieces. Three others are removed separately from the list of materials as the deck spacers are also made out of the 2X4s. These are positioned between the canopy and fort posts. This will lead to the creation of a neat and clean spaced deck floor.4. Installing the wall panels and panel boards.
Ladder construction
Build the ladder and install it. Place one of the tops of the legs of the ladder in such a way that it fits properly.Installation of the swing beam
Tighten the swing hangers with the beam of swing. Join two swing beam legs of size 4X4 together with the help of leg bracket.Tighten the beam
Attach the swing-beam support upon the fort, then screw the bracket of swing- beam with the support. With the help of someone, place the swing-beam in an erect position and place it in the beam. Tighten the swing beam with the leg bracket and with the support bracket.5. Giving finishing touches
Place the beam at the exact level. Attach the swing-beam in a cross position on the legs. Place the safety board along with the sandbox, keep the front panel board on the slide and rest of the boards for the sandbox. You can border all around the play area with the help of lumbers and spread wood chips throughout. Fill the sandbox with the sand. Attach all the remaining hardware altogether and attach the wave slide with the fort. Once this is done, you are now free to play with your kids! Conclusion
If you will follow these steps then within one weekend you will be able to make a sturdy swing set for your kids with wave trapeze bar, slide, sandbox, and more. If your kids use a lot of electronics, with this wooden swing set, you can encourage your kids to put down those electronics and go outside and have fun.
