When I started Telos Digital Marketing, https://telosdm.com to help medical practices and doctor’s offices with SEO and Google Ads, it was a time in my life when I was swamped. I had a full-time job, an hour commute, and 2 kids under four years old. It was tough going at first until I figured out some little life hacks to keep me on track and focused. If you’re looking to do something really great, then you need to have the right mindset. The one quote that really helped to inspire me was “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take. Use these tips that helped me to form new habits and behaviors in your life. Set Goalsr This was a difficult one for me since I am very goal oriented, but the problem was I was setting the wrong types of goals. You need to break down your goals and figure out what you really want. For me it was to have the ability to care for my family and be independent, that was my why. Find your why. I had trained myself through failures that setting big goals were unobtainable and at the first hint of failure, I would quit. What I did was not to set big goals, but little goals that were totally achievable. Owning a business was my primary goal, but I broke that down. How many clients, so I need? How many meetings do I need to get that number of clients? How many emails or phone calls do I need to get that many meetings? How many hours per week do I need to work to send that many emails or make that many phone calls? Bingo! That is a goal that is easy for me to accomplish. I set a goal of working on the business 20 hours a week to start. Do one thing a day that will eventually take you to your primary goal. Time Management I was at a point where I thought I had no free time. I was wrong, by looking for ways I wasted time and stopping to think that I deserved a “break,” I was able to gain enough time with all of the other things going on in my life to make it work. First I started to tell myself that I was going to be busy and that was a good thing. I don’t have “free time” anymore, I always busy. Schedule it. If you don’t schedule it, it will never happen. I started getting up at 5:00 AM to work on Telos Digital Marketing for an hour before getting ready for work. I was also devoting most of my Saturdays to working on my Healthcare Marketing Agency. My wife also played a huge role, because she had to be willing to watch the kids for most of the day Saturday while I worked what was basically a second job. Be constantly busy. Don’t Quitr By setting small, obtainable goals, you can feel like you accomplished something without reaching the primary goal you set. Persistence is something that is learned. I had to force myself to think differently. To be focused on my goal of working an hour a day. Tell yourself that the temporary pain of not having time will be worth it in the end. By doing that one thing every day repeatedly that you will reach your primary goal eventually. Nothing worth doing in life is easy. Set the right mindsetr You need to surround yourself with like-minded people. Find people around you that are motivated and start hanging out with them instead of the people that are lazy. You will morph into the people you are closest to, so you need to seek out people that have the same goals in life that you do. Don’t be brought down by the others around you. You need to surround yourself with positive people. With all of the negativity in the world today and so many ways to digest it, it’s no wonder so many people are not motivated! One thing that I did was to start surrounding myself with people that were positive. My wife and I even talked about how we wanted to incorporate this into our lives and started to become positive more ourselves. The negatives and failings in life will get you nowhere. I started listening to podcasts so that I could get even more motivation and positivity in my life. I stopped watching most TV and looking at, reading, or watching the news. These are the little things that really helped shape my habits and get me to focus on what I really wanted out of life.
