Motivation is a funny thing. It seems to come and go. But when you know the secret of how to motivate yourself, life gets a lot easier. It becomes less of a challenge. When you use the 3 goal setting strategies that follow, you can be sure that staying motivated will no longer be a challenge.

If you are like most people, you probably look at motivation as something outside of yourself, something that you have to find somewhere 'out there'. You might listen to motivational CDs, you might read motivational books, you might even surround yourself with little motivational sayings and posters, but in spite of all that 'motivation' you still find yourself struggling to stay fired up about achieving your goals. The problem is that all of those things only offer you a temporary solution. They only get you fired up for a short time before they wear off and you find yourself right back where you started.

What you need is a way to be your own motivation, to be naturally fired up about your goals and dreams. The following three goal setting strategies will help you do just that.

1. Know Your WHY - Nothing is as important to your ultimate success as knowing the reasons 'why' you want to accomplish or achieve something. The stronger your reasons for wanting something, the more motivated you will be to achieve it. When you have a burning desire to change your life, there is little that can stand in your way. The bigger your desire, the smaller your problems appear to be.

2. Change Your Perspective - Sometimes all that you need to tap into your motivation is a slight change in perspective. You might be looking at things from the wrong viewpoint. It is impossible to be focused on your big dream if you are paying attention to your problems. So ask yourself, "Am I looking at this situation as a problem, or as an opportunity to reach my goal?" Often, when you switch your focus from your problems to your goals, you are able to once again feel motivated. And the result of course, is that you are able to find solutions to those problems that you thought were holding you back.

3. Decide to BE Motivated - Yes, you can decide to be motivated. In fact, that's what most successful people do. They make a conscious decision that their dreams matter, that they will move forward - in spite of their challenges. You can do the same thing. You can decide that you are a motivated person. Think about this: If you are not deciding to be motivated, then by default you are deciding not to be motivated!

Learning how to motivate yourself is not hard. As long as your goals are powerful and you are committed to achieving them, you will find yourself doing what needs to doing.
