Many people are usually surprised when they enter midlife and suddenly find themselves gaining a lot of weight when they have not done anything different in their lives. This is simply because the human body's metabolism will slow down dramatically after you have reached the age of thirty to forty years. If you were to still carry on your drinking and sedentary lifestyle, your metabolism will no longer be able to support such a lifestyle, and you will gain lots of weight in unsightly areas on top of a weakened liver and immune system. If you want to prevent the above from happening to you now or in the future, make sure to read on.
First of all, you should start being more conscious of what you drink throughout the day. You should stop drinking soda if you want to prevent midlife weight gain. Soda is full of sugar with absolutely no nutrients. This will result in blood sugar level and insulin spike within your body, causing your metabolism levels to crash. This in turn leads to fat gain. Instead of always drinking soda, you should drink more plain water or green tea. Unsweetened ice lemon tea is also a great choice as a beverage to help you lose weight. All of these will strengthen your immune system as well as help you lose weight.
Next, you should also engage in more physical activities and take on a more active lifestyle. There is no need to be a professional athlete, but make sure to become more active than you were in the past. Easy ways to stay more active during your day will be cycling instead of driving and taking the stairs instead of the escalator.
Next, you should seek effective methods to release your stress. When you are stressed, your body releases more of the hormone cortisol. This hormone will cause you to lose lean muscle mass and pile on excess fats! Regular exercises, gathering with friends or meditation are all useful methods to relieve your stress levels.
Also, you should eat appropriately accordingly to your new metabolism rate. Since your metabolism is now slower, you should seek healthier food choices. Look for ingredients which are natural and stop cooking with salt or butter. Educate yourself more on what are the best types of ingredients to use in your meals. Additionally, make sure to eat too much towards the evening; take the bulk of your daily calorie intake early in the morning.
