How to ….Take All the Risk Out of Hiring a Personal Trainer!

Some people say there are three keys to having a successful and enjoyable life. Time, money and energy, if you have all three of these things then “in theory” your life should be in balance. But in reality very few of us have all three of these valuable resources. So what are people doing about it?
A movement has begun across the UK, mostly amongst middle aged, and middle and upper class professionals. The lucky few who have the time and money and find their “get up and go, has got up and gone!” are doing something about it.
To make sure they enjoy the fruits of their labour they are getting fit the easy way and hiring a personal trainer. The demand for personal trainers in Swansea (where I work) has never been so big.
In this article I will explain what the usual process “of hiring a personal trainer” should generally include, how much it will cost, what questions you can ask, and a few tips to save you time and money in making sure you hire the right person to get you into the best shape of your life! This article will help your decision making a bit easier.
First off …you need to do a search on Google and find a list of your local personal trainers. Narrow your search down to the ones which serve your area and your needs. Do you want male or female? Gym - home or outside sessions? What are your goals and budget? These must be in-line and realistic.
Next …you need to realise having a personal trainer is a luxury but it will save you time and give you energy. This may cost you between £15 (cheapest I’ve seen) - £55 (most expensive I’ve seen, it’s us!), average price of £25-35 per session, with lower rates for bigger commitments being the industry norm. Costs can average out at £200.00-£400.00 per month for two or three sessions per week.
And then…Ask lots of questions - to see their terms and conditions and their insurance, ask them for a taster session to see if you are going to gel, sometimes this will be free of charge. Ask how they will help you achieve your goals?
Time and Money Saving Tips
• Losing all your “easy weight” before you pick up the phone to any personal trainers will save you money
• Shop around; meet up with more than one trainer, have a couple of taster sessions, this will give you confidence in your purchase. Remember you are hiring a member of staff, treat it as so, and ‘interview’ them more or less!
• Check if they are a member with The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) – the personal trainer will say on their website if they are. Levels start at one and go to a maximum of four in this country, personal trainers should be a minimum of level 3 on REPS, in my opinion, but remember it’s not the law, there is no law, anyone can be a personal trainer, yes really - anyone!
This answers most of the questions I get asked on a weekly basis. Get a personal trainer who will help you become the person you want to be, this can be easier said than done, but as they say “the devil is in the detail”… and lucky for you the details are above!
Take the risk out of your investment and follow this simple advice.
