How Your Life Can Be A Dream - Success Strategies
Written by Dr. Robert C. Worstell
Many people, at some point or another, have dreamed of being someone special - of personal greatness. Their are fantasies of being a start at sports, the homecoming queen, or simply rich and successful - even just happy with our relationships.
For all our big dreams and great aspirations, our dreams remain just that - dreams. And our hopes for future success and notoriety seem to collect dust up in our mental attic.
While we may look at these dreams from time to time, it's more probable that we don't - for that could lead us into dissatisfaction with the dull and humdrum life we are living. It's a far cry from the exciting dream-life we laid out for ourselves.
How about the reverse? If we learned to convert our pipe-dreams into actuality through responsible action?
Of course, the first stumbling block to achieving any goal is to believe in that lie called "Impossible." There are a lot of phrases like that: "I can't do this." or "It's too hard." "It's too unrealistic." "No one can do this."
Of course, if everyone thought that way, there would probably never have been any inventions, discoveries, or breakthroughs which make up the list of human accomplishments.
For instance, you may recall the baffled scientists who first tried to apply aerodynamic principles to the lowly bumblebee. In theory, they said, it was simply impossible for the bee to fly. Of course, the moral of the story is that no one ever got around to telling the bee that - so it simply flies as it ever has.
Another self imposed limit is where people suffer from dreaming totally outrageous dreams and not acting on them. The result? Broken dreams, and tattered aspirations.
To the degree you limit yourself with doubt and assumptions of pre-ordained failure, you may never be able to have any breakthrough past what you now consider to be impossible. Sky high dreams can only fail when you take no action toward any goal you've set.
Try this exercise. Take a piece of paper and write down some goals in your life. Under one header, list down things ‘you know you can do’. Under another header, write the things ‘you might be able to do.’ And under one more, list the things that that are ‘impossible for you to do.’
Now work out the steps you can see right now that would help you achieve that goal. Put them under each header according to how hard you think they are to attain or achieve.
Every day, review your goal statement and look over those items you wrote down under those headers. See which ones you can get done that day. Try accomplishing the ones under that header "Things you know you can do." And occasionally, you might even get to some of those under "Things you might be able to do."
As you start getting more and more things done in the first column, you can work on getting more things done in the second column, as these will probably become more possible to do. As you get better at getting things done, you can look over that third column of "Things that are impossible to do" and see if you now start seeing how some of those might be able to get done.
Now in going through this process, you may find that those goals you once thought impossible are now not so dire and out of reach. Because you have been working on them in little bits, the impossible starts to look possible.
Just don't limit yourself - that's the point. Simply break down every doal into doable steps you can start on right now. As you get these done, then you'll find that the 'might be able to do' steps are also able to be accomplished when you break them down. Even the hardest steps can be accomplished as you break out the doable steps for these. You can now see the secret to making the impossible possible.
The only disappointed and disillusioned people are those who only dream and never take action.
Skyscrapers, Airplanes, Television, Moon Landings - all these were originally thought of as impossible. Yet they are now factual and many are common place. Any dream can be made into a reality by simply breaking down those goals into smaller, more doable steps and then taking action to get them done.
The point is to dream your dreams. Keep these bright and polished and in front of you daily. Think big. Break down goals into doable steps. Plan your work and work your plan. And as you keep moving along this line, you'll find that really nothing is ever impossible with this sequence.
Because your life could be a dream - if you really you want it to be.
