Plants are grown within a chamber filled with clay pebbles. The growing chamber is suspended above a reservoir filled with nutrient-enriched water. An air pump drives the nutrient solution up through the central column to the drip ring where it is dispersed over the clay pebbles. The technique infuses the nutrient solution with oxygen which constantly passes over the root system, stimulating plant growth.

To build your own Water Farm hydroponic system, you will need 4-gallon reservoir, 2-gallon growing chamber, a column support tube, a drip ring, a pumping column, ½" grommet, an elite 800 air pump, and a drain level tube. First step in building Water Farm hydroponic system is to insert the black clip for the drain level tube (DLT) into the main reservoir. Then push the blue DLT from outside into the reservoir so that it is positioned sideways at the bottom. The DLT is held vertical using a clip during normal operation. Then place the two gallon growing chamber into the main reservoir. The pumping column support tube is to be then pushed beveled-end-first into the chamber though the larger hole in the bottom of the growing chamber.
Once the pumping column is placed, connect the tee on the drip ring to the assembly of pumping column. Make sure that the drip holes in drip ring are facing downwards. This entire arrangement is known as drip ring assembly. Now, push the drip ring assembly down into the pumping column support taking care that its bottom should barely touch the main reservoir. Do not catch the tube clamps on the support. Later, fill the growing chamber with clay pebbles. To get a better access to grow chamber, keep flipping drip ring up and out of the way. Attach the clear air line to the flexible tubing of the pumping column and the other end to the air pump.
